2016 2SS Camaro issues

Alright guys, long-time lurker, rare poster. So, I've had my 2016 2SS for a few months now. I bought it with 5 miles on the odometer. As of today, we're sitting at 6k miles and I've had a series of problems with it. I didn't include the noises caused by the recall on the line since it was fixed by a revised part.

1.) First time in the shop around 1k miles. Rubbing noise coming from rearend while turning, especially on cold-start. They replaced rear diff. fluid and noted that it was dark-brown.
2.) Second time in the shop around 3k miles. Rubbing noise coming from rearend while turning. They replaced rear diff. fluid again and noted it was dark-brown.
3.) Rubbing noise again. About to take it back to the shop and I am going to suspect they'll do the same thing again.
4.) Touch screen on mylink is being molested by a ghost. The panel becomes non-responsive and/or receives phantom input causing it to spaz out. This seems to be directly caused by the weather. On a warm or cool sunny day/night - it works perfectly. Here's a video I recorded of it happening yesterday. Humid & Dry days seem to create different issues.

So - I absolutely frickin love this car and I do not want to lose it but I feel like - if I don't claim lemon law on this car after the 4th time the rear diff. needs a flush again, I am going to regret it later on when I don't have the warranty anymore. So I am asking you all, what is your opinion about this and has the 2017 2SS addressed this problem at all? Do the 2SS's come with the rear-end cooler by default now?

I thought the whole world knew by now that the six gen Camaro rear ends growl the first miles or so before they warm up. It's considered pretty normal by now it seems. Maybe a recall will come out soon!

I was definitely aware of the prominent issue however, I am also aware that not all six gen camaros have this problem. I suppose that I was really just seeking out the opinion of others regarding the notion of returning the car and getting a 2017.

Regarding your rear diff, find out exactly what kind of fluid they are replacing. Also find out if they are adding friction modifiers. I am not sure if they are needed in our limited slip differentials. Friction modifiers are usually present only in small quantity, like a few ounces. They basically allow the limited slip diff to slip when going around turns. I am referring to a traditional style LSD. We may have something more hi-tech, but I think the base LSD with the 2SS package is not electronic or super-fancy.

Your mylink problem sounds to me like "ghost touching." The touch screen digitizer is picking up false touches. Often this is caused by grounding issues within the unit. If you google "ghost touching digitizer" you will find this is not as rare a problem as you might have thought. All touchscreen devices experience it if manufactured in adequate numbers. Since you are still under warranty, get a new screen. A few years from now we can start taking these things apart. Not worth the trouble now.

I had a similar issue...the volume would start turning down and up on its own. The volume controls on the steering wheel stopped working. I would turn off the radio and it would turn back on. I pulled over turned the car off...it never happened again, still wondering what happened. Good thing you got a video, make sure you show it to your dealer.

Major problem with "some" cars.. Costing GM mucho dinero.... My friend was on his 4th rear end assembly when GM purchased it back under the Lemon Law.. My wife's SS Vert is perfect

Yeah, the thing about cars like ours is (track/sport cars in general) is that they're notorious for problems. They're imperfect. But damn man, you spend 42-48k on a car and this comes with an assumption that you'll have less issues. I've had more problems with this car than my Scion tC back in 2011. But then again, the more features - the more there is to break. I should reitterate that I love my car and I couldn't go back, ever again. When my wife and I go on trips and we have to drive her 2016 Mazda CX5 - I feel.... sad. Lol! I could never go back to a 4 or 6 cylinder. I get on average about 13MPG and I am ok with that.

I think that I am going to return the car and get a 2017 after they fail to fix it for the fourth time. Then, I will get one with magnetic ride control and have them install the rear differential cooler (which comes on the z28). While I am sure the z28 really needs it, I think the same applies to the 2SS.

Oh shit, guys. I forgot to tell you something. Get this. On one of my warranty work service sheets, it says this:

"REAR DIFF FLUID DARK WITH METAL DEBRIS - DRAINED AND REPLACED FLUID"

What the ****, right? This thing is going to explode.

How did you get them to commit to replacing the rims? 3 of mine have spots of peeled areas.

Like everyone else, I'm worried they will just say I cleaned them wrong or some BS.

Here is some LSD info regarding change intervals:
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=436057
Here is the correct GM fluid for the LSD. Note it already contains friction modifiers.
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oe-gm/88862624
So, I think the question is to find out if they are using this exact product or some other 75w-90 gear oil (which may not contain modifiers).

Took it in and showed them what the back wheels were doing at less than 3K miles or so. They really didnt argue about it. The service manager said it was strange - he hadnt seen the issue before but I was the second person that day to bring one in with the problem. When he reported it to Chevy, they sent someone in to look at it. I had to bring it in for them to look at - I told them that there were multiple reports about it on Camaro6. They asked what I clean them with - I pulled the stuff out of the trunk.

My fronts aren't doing it (yet). They are noticeably glossier. The back wheels are much duller and the paint is fading away. Almost like the manufacturer didnt cure them correctly. Since the back wheels are different sizes, Im sure that they are made at different times (maybe even different manufacturers). It helped that only 2 of mine were doing it and looked the same - if it was something Im washing them with all four would definitely be damaged. Not saying all four wouldn't fail - but if I was washing them with something harsh it would damage all four and not just two.

BTW dont wait - tell them as soon as you notice it and document it. All they can do is tell you no - then you can tell them others are having the same problem. Chevy cant fix it if they dont have people reporting it.
