Knocking sound while turning

I switched my SS wheels and tires to the 18" LT wheels and tires for the winter.

Now I hear this knock sound when making a slow speed sharp turn (such as in a parking lot or doing a K-turn). I haven't experimented with it yet but so far have only noticed it while moving. There is a quiet but noticeable knock about once every second while in the turn. It happens going in reverse and forward.

It sounds like the knocking is coming from the front but I could be mistaken.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be? I know there are common issues with our differentials but this sounds like a different issue to me. I'm going to go and make sure that the wheels are all torqued correctly...

All wheels were torqued down correctly. Might be rubbing on something. I noticed that I can't even fit my finger in between the passenger side shock tower and the tire.

I don't know, but here's a bump so more eyes will see it.

Thanks.

When I am moving and turn the steering wheel to almost full lock to the left, I hear it on the right (passenger side) and when I turn the steering wheel to the right, I hear it on the left (driver side).

This leads me to believe that the front of the front wheels are hitting something (I assume the shock towers) when turning sharply.

It's a shame that the OEM 18" wheels do not fit perfectly on my SS. It isn't so bad that I can't drive the car but I just have to avoid turning the steering wheel all the way with these on.

I might have to look into spacers now.

Inner wheel weights are contacting the plastic control arm air deflector. Common on 18" wheel with 32+ offset.

I have never heard a knocking sound, but just got under my new SS this evening for the first time and found this. The inner liner is worn all the way through and even if I push it back into place, it pops back down. Only had the car 10 days.

That would explain why it isn't a constant noise but rather about once every 1-2 seconds. It must be making the noise every time that the wheel rotates and the weight hits the air deflector. Thanks!

Wow, I'd take it to the dealer... Obviously shouldn't be like that. Is that the back or front of the car?

It's the front right, just above the large vent from the cooling radiator. The hole is also visible from the engine bay under the fuse box and jumping contacts.

You hit the nail on the head. Checked yesterday and the wheel weights were most definitely coming into contact with something black and plastic. It actually looked as if the sharp corner of the rectangular weight was worn down a little.

What was your fix? Wheel spacer? Or just not make a full locked turn? Have you done any driving in snow with these? Thoughts? Thanks.

I experience the same issue with my winter wheels and tires. As for driving in the snow, if you keep all the systems turned on the car is a dream to drive (with blizack ws80's) and will get around great. Turn them off and it is still manageable but can be difficult to get it to do what you want it to do.

20in wheels

I have this issue with my stock 20 inch wheels. I only started to hear it recently.
