Is the NPP Dual Mode Exhaust Worth It?
Camaro Nation, I have questions regarding the NPP Dual Mode Exhaust: 1. The only things I know about the NPP Dual Mode Exhaust is the price, a $895 option. 2. From all the videos I have seen with the NPP Dual Mode Exhaust vs. Stock Exhaust, with the NPP you are able to change the noise level from loud to soft, when you reach a certain RPM. Is this correct? Yes, sound will kick in at about 2800 or 3000 rpm to be precise. I love it especially when I take on cars sound kicks in at the perfect time. 3. It sounds AWESOME! vs the Stock exhaust. 4. NPP comes with a quad tip, Stock comes only with dual tip, is this correct? Yes that's correct. NPP comes wid quad tip. 5. It is really geared toward just SS (V8) owners or should V6 owners get it? V6 owners can get it its and additional add on they call it the "dual performance exhaust" while regular one is called dual exhaust. 6. On manual transmission the controller for NPP exhaust its located on the gearshifter, is this correct? I am not sure but it mostly depends on what mode u r driving sport, Rally, Tour etc. U can always control your sound in the setting from ur chevymy link touch screen. U can make it sound like sport mode irrespective of what mode u drive or choose it to be auto. 7. How about on the automatic transmission, where is the controller located? On the shifter? It is located near the shifter or more like the arm rest where the electronic parking brake & traction control is located. This makes it easy to change while u r driving. Driving mode button is what controls NPP along vid a bunch of other stuff like steering suspension etc. 8. How do you work the NPP exhaust, is there a button you press to activate it? Change driving modes and NPP works accordingly. It works automatically. 9. Are there any SS owners who ARE NOT getting the NPP exhaust and just sticking with the stock exhaust? 10. Is the stock exhaust always loud because there is no way to control it? 11. Is the NPP dual exhaust WORTH IT???? I would say it is worth it I had the same questions when I was getting my car but I liked it instantly after using it. If u really don't care about controlling sound u can always get after market stuff which are louder but have less control over the sound. I would definitely recommend getting NPP it has a unique sound which is refined certainly not as loud/Harsh as after market exhausts. |

The NPP exhaust sounds good but it seems that a lot of people are having issues with rattling and squeaking sounds after reading this thread:
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=443939 Some of the people are commenting that the NPP exhausts are doing the same thing after the dealership has put a brand new exhaust on the car. Personally, I would rather buy a non-NPP vehicle, buy the rear NPP fascia (paint it gloss black) and then put on a Corsa axle-back. Your probably looking at a cost of $1500-$1700 instead of $895 for the NPP exhaust--but you don't have to worry about warranty issues down the road or having rattling/squeaking sounds. |

IMO the NPP is worth it. I like mine a lot. No rattles or squeaks.

It is worth it, just wish it was a tad louder. People say it sounds louder from outside, but I don't know.

I've had mine for a week now and seems like it has tamed down a little the past few days. Maybe I just got used to the sound, idk. It definitely sounds aggressive and nice when you're heavy on the gas. Well worth the money IMO.

I have the NPP on my new 50th Anniversary 2SS. I love the sound in Sport and Track modes, but was getting a nasty rattle when starting it up cold (especially in Turing mode, for some reason). Anyway, I took it in to the dealership because my "glow-tie" and cargo net came in (they weren't delivered with the car) and I mentioned the rattle. It turns out there is a service bulletin for the 2017's with the NPP exhaust. Something about re-seating the ceramic pins and using a loc-tite epoxy to secure. It's being done on my car this morning. Should stop the rattle. Will post an update after i get the car back.
Man...this car is AMAZING!

My car did NOT come with the dual mode exhaust and it is pretty quite except when I first start it up in the morning. The initial "GROWL" kicks in upon startup and it always makes me smile. I kind wish it DID have it but IF the only benefit is the sound and if is does NOT contribute to better performance, then for ME, it wouldn't be worth it. However, I do believe it helps the engine breathe better when the demand for performance arrises, as in track mode.

YES its worth it, I just got my car and I love the way it sounds accelerating and when it rev matches on the down shifts. It sounds amazing. I'd rather listen to the motor than the stereo, it's that good. I roll the windows down and turn the stereo off and Just enjoy the amazing sound of the motor. It sounds like a trophy truck. It does help performance some. Yes obviously it is louder, but I'd seen dynos of them with and without, the NPP netted a few more hp. Same with the manuals. About 10-15 hp difference in the two there. Can't beat the shifting of the A8 though, even with the extra power and tq. Most just pull the fuse so it's always in track mode basically. Actually gives a little more growl in the lower rpms since the valves are always full open then. |

I vote "yes" to it being worth it.
For $895 sticker you get quad tips and tuneability from integrated systems. You get some roar inside the car, but the impact is greater outside. So roll down the windows if you want that effect (I don't). When I was looking at camaros and my wife (age 48) first heard an SS with this option her immediate question was, "Why would you NOT get that?" |

Something else that effects the sound is the AFM valves ahead of the NPP. Their main function is to change the exhaust back pressure when you go into V4 operation. You can't/shouldn't defeat these or you'll throw a code.
You can pull the NPP fuse or control the NPP from the Infotainment system setting to stay open. If you want that "start up" growl all the time, you can get a Range AFM device to override the V4 mode all the time. Of course you can choose to keep it in "Sport" or "Track" too but I kind of like the "Touring" mode for daily driving. http://www.rangetechnology.com/pages/v8 |

You will always have the startup growl as the V4 mode only kicks in when cruising. You do not need the Range AFM for the start up. Also only the A8 has the AFM on the SS models. The M6 models the AFM is non-functional.
