I would highly recommend you try out the stock tune that comes with your Magnuson before you spend ANY extra money on a custom tune, regardless of what the shop tells you. The Magnuson tunes are VERY good right out of the box. I've reviewed the data from those tunes on both the Challenger and recently the Camaro, and they are about as perfect as you can get on a stock motor. No reason to even throw it on a dyno unless you just really want a before and after dyno graph for your scrap book.

Happy motoring, you'll love the supercharger.

P.S. - check this out if you haven't seen it.

As usual, I'm in sync with Speedy's thinking. In my way of thinking, and many years of chasing power on the street, 600ish rwhp is a sweet spot for cars in this weight classification. Yes, you can drive 1000 rwhp on the street, but is it really that much more fun than 600 rwhp around town?

Really? Hmm..well Ill try the stock tune first then and save the $600. The guy at the shop Im getting it installed said he may be able to tune another 20HP out of it - $30 per HP is a lot however. Aside from mufflers I'll be stock.

Looks like Im dumping my SCT device and Inductions CAI

Thx for the advice.

No reason to dump the SCT Magnuson and others can provide the supercharger tune in SCT format and receive a 200.00 discount on the purchase of the supercharger.

Looks like the kit I already bought (via the shop) comes with an SCT tuner. . Not going to re-tune the car. As per Magnuson aftermarket tunes will void its powertrain warantee. I dont think most people consider that and just assume an aftermarket tune is the norm. At that point you have zero powertrain warantee for the life of the car.

After years of going from mild to blow my S/C extreme in my car builds, Ive settled on staying stock and just going F/I. Its the best way to get big power numbers and keep longevity of the car. I have friends that go F/I, swap internals cause they can and ALWAYS have issues. Its a dollar sucking disease. The S/C was costly enough!

For me a non-tracked DD, anything past 550HP is just throwing big money at minimal gain. Then again, I could care less about HP numbers..rather have a ton of fun low down torque and drivability.

cant wait to get this thing on! If I was anywhere near CT, Jannetty would be doing the install.

As a follow up to your suggestion, the 3 shops I narrowed it down to told me to keep the stock maggie tune, even though they could squeeze another $600 out of me for custom tuning. Its the honest guys like that Im always willing to give my business too.

The ZL1 IMO is the biggest bang for the buck car for 2017 - gets you to the next red light faster . If in 2 years my SS isnt enough, a used ZL1 will be in the mix.
Small fortune? I'll be in my car 50k AFTER my mods. Won't be able to get a ZL1 for anywhere near that much. Also, there's a lot of stuff there for the money that I don't care for on the ZL1. Not to mention, I'll beat them in a drag race and still have plenty good brakes and handling for what I need. Jordan has gone out and done incredibly well in his nearly stock 6th gen so I know these cars are capable. I personally don't see the sense in spending another $15,000 for less power and a badge on the side when the car is SO good in 1SS form. Just my .02.....

Just recently saw pricing on the new ZL1 with dealer added costs and youre right, parts swap on SS vs ZL1 is a big cost difference.

Based on that...I changed my tune a little and decided to go with a magnuson install here in a week rather than waiting 2 years for a used ZL1. Its REALLY tough to find a used muscle car that isnt beat hard by its previous owner - had that issue when shopping around for a 2013 GS Vette - too many guys with part swap fever. Rather BE that guy than buy from that guy!

Good luck on that build.

Alright all, I'm sorry for the delay. We switched things up a bit from our original plan and it added some time but the build is complete, for now haha.

I picked the car up about a week ago and I've had ample opportunity to drive and make smoke and make smoke it does. The 305 Eagle F1 G2 tires do very little for the torque we're making. As it sits, we are at 585 RWHP and 657 RWTQ (see mods in signature). I am beyond pleased with the car. The torque is absolutely insane. You can get sideways at ANY speed if you so desire. It's definitely been a bit of an adjustment for me. I basically had to relearn how to drive this car. A welcome problem of course.

I've already had to fill my Methanol once so believe me, I'm not babying the car. The driveability is excellent! Hasn't skipped a beat so far and the quick shits from the A8 make the car pull HARD all the way through your run. The A8 was the right choice for my plans and I'm very happy I didn't let popular opinion sway me from getting it. I will be shooting some videos of cold and warm starts as well as strapping the go pro on her for some good audio clips and such.

HUGE THANK YOU TO JDP MOTORSPORTS!! Seeing as how I work for one of the largest automotive dealer groups in the nation, I've driven some of the fastest cars that the modern day world has to offer. This car will destroy them ALL in stock form once I put some good rubber on the back. I can't wait to break some hearts!

Also, to anyone thinking about the A8, DO IT!!! Manual mode can be nearly mastered with enough time. It's just a matter of learning the intricacies. I could NOT be happier with the car! You owe it to yourselves to call JDP before spending your hard earned money anywhere else.

Here's to beastly power

Jared

How are you going to measure crank HP when you say you want 750? Extrapolate from RWHP and add 15% like most folks I guess? That would be about 637RWHP if my math's right. Not sure you'll get that much.

The methanol injection will help with IATs, but if your tuner actually tunes more timing in to the car to take advantage of it he's a brave man.

Not sure how much more boost the 10% will give you, but you'll need at at your altitude more than likely. It may end up being a wash. I'd have skipped the more expensive ATI damper on a stock motor and would have dropped a pulley size on the blower to save a few bucks and achieve the same result.

Should be a fun car when done.
So what do I win? LOL

You DID nail that lol! Nicely done! We downsized to a 5% and still used the ATI as it's just a better piece. We're at 4500 FT and it made 10lbs with a smaller upper as well.

I hope I beat your low 11. Won't be able to find out till spring now though.

Okay y'all! Next round of Mods coming. Heads and Stage II PD Cam. Fueling upgrades as necessary also. Where do these take me from the 584/657 I'm at now!?

Aside from tires, are you guys doing any other suspension mods to help with traction?
