i look forward to this.
this is good hacking. While i've yet to hit my front on anything, cameras up there would be nifty. Dont care at all about the vette data logging features or video in motion. Would be nice to remove items from the mylink homescreen even though i'm almost always in android auto - like getting rid of onstar icons and phone icons and contacts and xm radio. Probably beyond the scope of enabling and disabling features though.

those concerned with remote hacking your vehicle... you can disable onstar's radio and at the very least disable ssid broadcasting of wifi - which should eliminate nearly any hacking of your vehicle that doesn't require being physically in contact with it. Once i get motivated again, i'll take out the wifi module (it's next to the onstar module) and see if it's possible to definitively disable wifi without losing bluetooth. Not optimistic there though since bluetooth is usually handled by the same radio as wifi. Then that'll just leave the key fab hacking vector. Which probably will not be correctable but meh. not giving up keyless. I love not having to even touch the key fab ever too much.

I really like the idea of front cameras.

very interested in a front camera possibility. I have a curb alert, but some times the parking spots are diagonal to the curb here

Hack is a term for many things. Hack a pc..... hack can also mean to improve on something...like hacking putty. Or as someone stated above, just getting access to something

some dealer knowledge on how to official upgrades are done, a little raspberry pi / arduino, sitting on the can-bus sniffing communication, a simple logger on the connection used to do official updates and some patience to comb through all that...

That's how you get access to find out what you need to write and where and how you need to write it to "activate" disabled or hidden features in existing firmware.

That's hacking in all the correct definitions of the term fyi.

Coming from a guy that has already scraped while parking, wonders why this didn't come as atandard or an option, I definitely would've gotten it
Pretty simple answer as to why..I invented and patented a few polymer coatings, one of them was to protect bathtubs and shower pans from being damaged during install. I built a large business around this and sold it off BUT the interesting part was that EVERY MFG blew me off, all with the same answer: Why would we want to stop people from damaging a product that we sell?

...for profit.

At least in most of the research I've piled through. It would be great to see an "open source" effort with the Camaro.

Takes too much time and difficult hence the reasoning of very few being able to do this, I will not ever expect GM to have an open source to modify their vehicles computer like that straight off the lot.

So when someone connects their service computer to my car, runs diagnostics or makes an update that is a hack?

Notsomuch.
