HUD Shift Lights?!?
I've seen a few threads about this in the past so this could be beating a dead horse but I think I saw more people saying the regular SS doesn't have it so maybe the 1LE/ZL1 does, or maybe I'm crazy haha
That said yesterday I was driving a little more "spiritedly" and I revved it out to right at 4000 in 1st and 2nd and noticed green lights pop up in the HUD. I'm assuming these would eventually go yellow/red as the revs climb. I for one am thrilled if I'm right about this. I know at least a couple of you guys have pushed your cars a little harder than me so you should be able to confirm/deny this.

Yep. You'll see them build and build. Very nice feature. I was trying to watch my eLSD number at the same time and initially thought they were related, I was trying to induce a little wheel spin to see what the eLSD number looked like. Couldn't figure out the eLSD logarithm but definitely saw the correlation with the lights and climbing RPM.
can't say which other cars do/do not have it... mine is a 17 SS 1LE. |

Definitely has shift lights on the hud.
I think they are variable based on certain parameters, I was slightly aggressive after just starting the car, cold engine, cold oil, and the green shift lights got to four on each side by 4500 rpm. Btw it appears to grow from 1 green diamond to 4 green diamonds on each side of the hud from the outside to the inside, then they all turn yellow and then I'm assuming red. I haven't redlined it yet. |

Not to sound like your Mom or anything but you should NEVER EVER drive your car even a little hard after just having started it. Your OIL temps should be 160 or so before you even consider going that hard.

I haven't had my car over 4500 rpm yet, and I have my HUD in the "regular" mode. Speedo, tach, gear, g's. Is this the mode that you see the shift light in? Or another? Or is it all of them?
Nice to hear we have this, my buddy with a regular SS was annoyed the owners manual seems to mention it, but he doesn't have it. |

The E-LSD performance display shows 2 things it has percentage number displayed that says how active the rear diff is. If driving in a straight line it will likely read 0-1%. Start cornering a little aggressively and you'll start to see that number rise. The other number is a yellow 0-30% wheel spin graph. I played around in the rain spinning the tires and noticed that on acceleration it may read 0-5% , but if you deliberately spun the tires the graph would spike to 30% and turn from yellow to red. I think the idea here is on hard corner exits you can see how much rotational work the diff is doing and how much it is on the limit of traction. I would think it would help you confirm which PTM mode is allowing enough slip without completely losing traction, but I have no idea how you could push the car that hard while looking at that gauge. Maybe setup a GoPro to record that gauge during a track session? Quote:

I think you have exaggerated my statement in your head. As I said SLIGHTLY aggressive, I mean I pushed the throttle half way and the rpms exceeded 4000. Since I was turning the car around in the driveway and decided to go the end of the block and back to not impede traffic I had no intention of letting the car warm up or driving it hard. I'm sorry if I sound a little annoyed but I am. I totally understood why the car was giving me shift lights at such low rpms as evidenced by my commenting the oil was cold. Stay in your lane mom. |

100% can confirm the shift lights initiate with WOT. I ran some friends of mine a couple weeks ago and it's a welcome option. Green lights start on the corners of the HUD and build into the center then change yellow and finally red before fuel cut (ask me how I know).

Yeah I went from my '16 1SS into an Audi S3, tracked it and was disappointed in its lack of prowess, got a Porsche Boxster 718S intending to drop the S3, but kept the S3. Tracked the 718S, loved it but couldnt find a good spot for the external mic... all I'd hear is the turbo/induction noise. Ugh. It was a fun car but not as dramatic as I wanted so I traded that back in for a 1LE, lol. fun journey. I'll post up a laguna Seca video in a couple weeks! |
