I sincerely hope you are not seriously injured. Something about pain and suffering said above. I can understand going to a different car because you might not want to be reminded about what happened.

Thank you. I wasn't severely injured but messed up my neck and shoulder area from impact. Bad part is I was leaving on a trip to Indonesia the next day and a 30 hour flight going and coming, and it being my engagement trip really ruined our vacation. I was not able to do many of the activities we had planned due to pain and chance of making things worse. She did say yes though!

The problem with this world is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

How long did it take you to receive diminished value claim offer? I Have been fighting with geico for 3 months to get my claim pushed through, I had 12 In damage, though my car drives the same after I got the car back.

This isn't necessarily true that you lose out on money down on leases. If you get yourself screwed on a lease deal and are upside down this won't help you.

But...

We had a Chevy Traverse get totaled a few years back. I'd put down enough to cover TTL and a small amount of cap cost reduction. It was in a rollover accident where all the airbags deployed and there wasn't a straight piece of sheetmetal left.

I contacted Ally to inform them and find out what the lease payoff was. They refused.

My insurance company inspected the vehicle and declared it a total loss and paid off Ally the market value which was around $26000.

I followed up with Ally again and asked what the payoff was. They said $22000.

I asked what happens to the $4000 overpayment they received and they got catty. I pressed and said you don't just get to keep the overage and they finally conceded that it was mine if I wanted to do a dealer transfer of collateral.

I had to find another vehicle and replace the VIN on the existing contract. The money gets applied and the payment can change but the length of the contract remains the same. In my case $4k was more than double what I'd put down and the contract had 18 of 24 months remaining so my payment dropped.

I told statefarm that if the car was not totaled out and since there was frame damage that I planned on selling it when I got it back. Statefarm had told me to take it to carmax to get an appraisal and I did so the same day I got the car back. The next day I sent over my appraisal and I was direct deposited 6175$ that same day. Doesn't matter if your car drives the same, demand that you want to sell it and are getting much lower value with the car being in an accident. They based their DV by the difference of carmax value vs nadaguides clean car value

If you like to try different cars every 2-3 years leasing is the way to go, especially with luxury cars. The depreciation is almost criminal.
