WAY back I had a trio of BMW 2002's. A used 69 that introduced me to the marque. Then a new 1975 that was promptly taken over by my Wife. Finally a new polaris silver 1976, the last year of that style.

I had a 1969 BMW 1600. Just like a 2002 except for the smaller engine. It was my second car. I kept it for about 8 years. Personally, I believe BMW is risking going off course. The 3 series has become too large and most of their R&D is going into electric and hybrid cars.

Believe me, back in the early 70's those 1600's and 2002's were real game changers. Great handling and performance , very good outward vision and very good mileage. They opened the eyes of a lot of people as to WHAT a truly great daily driver should be.

I've been tempted to buy another 2002 for many years. Either a restored car or one I would restore. The last infection of 2002 nostalgia was a bad one. Struck in 2010. I bought what I felt was a faux 2002. A 2010 VW GTI. REALLY reminded me of the old 2002's.

Struck again this year but satisfied it with the 1SS.

You are a lucky guy to have experienced your 1600. A real Driving Machine.
