Dam i haven't owned a radar since 1993. I remember having to mute it all the time due to the auto sliding doors in the supermarkets LOL

i got the '16 ss camaro without ever intending to wring it out -- or, as some might say, without ever intending to use it for the purposes for which it was created. these cars are just too quick and fast to use that way on public roads, period. so ... i got the ss because it is great fun to drive, great to sit in, has the features i want, looks cool inside and out -- and the wife likes it too! also, the price is right -- they're not cheap, but, there's no way to get more performance car for the money. and it has always been that way with camaros; this is my fourth v8 camaro, and my third z28/ss. (i write z2/ss as interchangeable because back in the 80s and 90s the z28 filled the role in the marketplace that the ss has filled in the 5th and 6th generation of camaros. oddly, in the 4th gen the ss was marginally above the z28, and of course, in the the 5th gen, the z28 was above -- and different from -- the ss.)

My previous car had a K40 360 degree system that was dealer installed, it saved my skin a few times. If you have the dough and want that safety net....I say go for it.

I never used a radar detector and never got a speeding ticket or a warning, but I live out in the middle of nowhere and make sure there's no one within several miles of me before driving aggressively. In my opinion, racing someone else is extremely dangerous and ignorant, but I also don't fault people for wanting to drive their "performance car" aggressively now and then. It's kind of a waste of $40-50k if you never use it for its intended function. It would be nice if more people had better access to tracks but it seems like more and more tracks/strips are shutting down.
You sound like you equate "track" with "dragstrip". These days a lot of people take their cars to track days where you run in 20-30 minute sessions on a road course, generally once an hour. Depends on the track and the track day. I have been to High Plains near Denver when there were only 15 cars there, so rather than sessions you just ran as much as you wanted. Trust me, a couple of hours on a track and you and your car need a break. It is ridiculously fun, but it really burns through the cash.

With that V8 power comes great responsibility as the saying goes. Use that V8 responsibly and take it to a track.
Wow tell me you have not put some gas into your Camaro, who said I was going to drive recklessly, dam stupid people assume things I have not said. LOL

That's why you need a laser jammer.... legal in most states...

If it radar and the road has been empty for miles ahead of you... then u won't get radar warning until hit and you're screwed.

Radar jammer gets you 10 years in JAIL.

Why risk killing someones kid? Racing is for race tracks, not the street. On the other hand, a good radar detector can save you money lest you forget you're speeding.

Look into AntiLaser Priority and Net radar. Will run you around 2k or so but they are the best out there. Just remember if you are doing 120+ you are going to get tagged and spend a night in jail. Counter measures are good and will alert you but they are not 100%. Also remember a few things:

1. There are no radar jammers, just radar detectors and laser jammers.
2. Radar detector will alert to laser but it might as well be a ticket alert because the officer has already got your speed.
3. Depending on where you are, cops use different equipment as far as radar or laser.

Good luck!

And tell me... When do you plan to let off the gas? What speed? How much over the limit? Not to mention you mentioned you wanted to street race which is reckless driving.

No need to throw insults out when you're trying to justify your actions by saying how much money you spent on your car.

My dilemma is that they are expensive and it's difficult to find somewhere to use them for their created purpose. The streets can be an unsafe/dangerous place to drive aggressively and the only track that is close to me doesn't open for another three months. How much do you typically spend annually on going to the track and how often do you go?
lets put it this way,my 6 cylinder does just fine and could easily get me some hefty tickets if i chose to drive that way.

Where I am if you're caught street racing the fine would be the least of your worries.

Keep in mind, cops don't need to know what speed you're going to see that you're racing.

You've just edited your original post today. See the third post by ELS1 in this thread that quotes you saying 'race'.

Try again.
