Don't want to be fined!

Do you guys know if is worth having a radar detector or is just a waste of money? I'd like to drive on a quiet road past midnight but still don't want to get a ****ing ticket!

If your that worried about it, should probably tell you, you shouldnt be doing it. Listen to your inner Jiminy Cricket, take it to the track.

You have to be smart about it. If you are the only one on the road speeding, well you're going to get tagged. I've been using a passport 8500 for about 15 years, plenty of warnings but I've been pulled over once because of the above scenario...plus I was in a hilly area. If you get tagged with laser, well game over about 95% of the time.

If you want to speed, trail someone going just as fast so they get tagged and you ca slow down.

Nothing is 100% guaranteed though. Just play it smart.

If the detector goes off, the cop has already seen you.

Aren't a lot of tracks closed now though? Even if you do have access to a track, usually you only get to make a couple passes over a span of a few hours. That does not sound very fun. I can see how the OP wants to use the performance aspect of his car more often than having to wait until the tracks are open, and then wait forever for his turn. I never used a radar detector and never got a speeding ticket or a warning, but I live out in the middle of nowhere and make sure there's no one within several miles of me before driving aggressively. In my opinion, racing someone else is extremely dangerous and ignorant, but I also don't fault people for wanting to drive their "performance car" aggressively now and then. It's kind of a waste of $40-50k if you never use it for its intended function. It would be nice if more people had better access to tracks but it seems like more and more tracks/strips are shutting down.

I'm in Virginia. Radar Detectors are illegal. I recommend Waze.

On iOS or android.

Not true unless it's laser.

Also this. But doesn't help in rural areas where there aren't other people using it.

I don't care if you spent $50,000 or $1 million.... Don't drive recklessly on public roads. Spending a lot of money doesn't justify stupid actions.

With that V8 power comes great responsibility as the saying goes. Use that V8 responsibly and take it to a track.

Not endangering others, not spending a couple hundred just to commit an unlawful act. I would say Jiminy and I are doing just fine. But its your car, you can do what you please.

For all of you people telling the OP to only drive above the speed limits, or aggressively, on a track, I'm curious as to how often you go to a track and if you think buying a performance car is worth the money. I've had a few performance cars, but currently don't have one, and I've been thinking about getting another one recently. My dilemma is that they are expensive and it's difficult to find somewhere to use them for their created purpose. The streets can be an unsafe/dangerous place to drive aggressively and the only track that is close to me doesn't open for another three months. How much do you typically spend annually on going to the track and how often do you go?
