I take my car back to the dealership I used to work at and purchased all my vehicles from. I trust my dealer and know the tech who ONLY works on my cars. I also know the service manager first hand. I am lucky in that perspective. but yeah, Pending on the work was done I'd say 6 or 7 would be reasonable. now if they put a new engine or trans in? I'd say 15-30 would be good.

Just to add to the paranoia, ZL1 owners can look forward to mechanics putting on under a mile but wearing out your back tires doing burnouts testing out your line lock.

Thanks you just helped me find out a part time job this summer.

Joking I would never disrespect anyone elses ride and I don't even like driving other peoples cars when they ask me too. Unless it's the Z06 I love racing that thing!

I have noticed something since I have been in Texas for the past couple years. All of the oil change places someone else drives your car in. I almost always do my own oil changes but my last car I did not care as much about.

In Ohio they had a few different companies where the customer drives their own car into the bay. What is the deal Texas??? I thought we do it bigger and better here.

The first person that got into my Kia was wearing a jumpsuit of course, grease all over my beige leather seats, arm rest, steering wheel, door armrests etc. He looked at me surprised when I started going off not grasping how much of a tool he just was. Sigh, I hate taking my car anywhere. Nobody seems to give a shit lol.

No test drive then?
I can't think of an issue that would require a 15 mile test drive. I can absolutely state that during several repairs that did not require any test drive my car was driven to excess, once for 26 miles, so I say no. I had a very trusted tech do a four wheel alignment on my vehicle a few weeks ago. He drove it just a few blocks.

All customer service does is look at you and label you as a problem customer. Give you less service. I've complained about not putting towels down on my cloth seats (old car) and having mechanics sit on seats driving the car. You got grease on your clothes and your going to sit on my white cloth seats? How dumb are you to do that.
Ridiculous, acting that way is so childish. Geez, grow up. if they did something wrong then fine, but to be so, nevermind......

If you cant treat the car like it is your own, then you dont need to be anywhere near it. Period.
I read his statement as saying that they have no interest in 'joy riding' in a customers car. They see a lot of Camaros and Corvettes on an almost daily basis. Techs at a dealership are like anybody else, they work hard and do their best to get you back in your car as quickly as possible. They have no interest in keeping your car in their bay, or waiting on in the lot any longer than is necessary. More than anything, they don't want a 'comeback' on a repair they already performed, that equates to no money for their time, so yes, if a drive is necessary to ensure the job is done right, that's what they will do.

Personally, I think 15 miles to check a transmission cooler and line is far too little. I want them to take the thing through the paces, get it to it's fullest operating temps, wring it out a little bit. Make sure it's good to go, if it fails on the test drive, then it was surely going to fail with me behind the wheel, I'd rather find out now if my trans was junk.

Keep in mind a lot of times it's not the mechanic who's driving your car around - often it's the lowest man on the totem pole who moves cars around. The tech may (hopefully) be respectful of your car, but he's not the only one around.

First off, I'm too old to be a Snowflake so that attitude is not going to work with me.

I've worked as a tech, and I always treated people's cars with respect, and as if they were special to them. If you don't want to treat people's cars properly, get out of the business. Just get out.

Very interesting subject. I dropped my 2016 2SS at a dealership in El Paso, TX on the 23rd for the following issues: transmission cooler line recall, headliner, chrome piece loose around fog lights, trunk lid adjustment and paint, and a grinding/rubbing come from the rear on slow turns. I received a call from the dealership on the morning of the 26th asking me to explain the noise coming from the rear end again. The service rep stated that didn't want to add anymore miles to the car. They were told when it went in that it only happened after a cold start, on slow turns, and once it was driven a few miles it would go away. So I became suspicious and logged into the mychevrolet app and discovered it I was driven 18 miles. I call the dealership back and they try to tell me that it is GM's policy that it must me driven at least 10 miles to verify... Huh? So the next thing I do is log into my OnStar account and see where the vehicle had been driven and how. All 18 miles were in city traffic to include residential neighborhoods (not the designated route according to the service
manager) and it also showed there were 3 hard accelerations and 1 hard hard braking along the route. I then call GM directly and eventually I am connected to a senior service advisor who stated that is not a policy and 18 miles seemed extreme (formal complaint lodged against the dealership). I then head to the dealership to speak with customer experience manager and show him all the information I have and he was embarrassed! Apparently they didn't know that the mychevrolet app and OnStar could provide that much information. I am waiting on the final resolution from GM and the dealership to see how this is going to turn out. I have always been leary of dealerships and this is exactly why. My 2SS had under 1700 miles when I brought it in and had never been above 3000 rpm's.
