Thumbs up Borla ATAK No NPP Review!

Hi all,

Wanted to give my review of the Borla Atak axle back, w/out the NPP valves. After much research and debate, I decided not to go with the NPP option, for a few reasons:
- I rarely used the Touring mode
- After I figured out that I would still retain the changes in accelerator pedal feel, and could still control engine cabin volume I really didn’t feel that I would miss it much
- The no NPP option of the Borla Atak is much less expensive, and for my limited mod budget, I wanted to use that savings on some Eibach springs.

So, I also already had the secondary cat delete with the stock NPP. My big dilemma was if I should put them back in with the Atak install. After talking it over with my exhaust guy, I decided to keep the delete. Another big concern of mine was with the secondary cat delete, would cold start be too loud. I just wanted to be courteous of my neighbors. I can report that after firing it up this morning, it’s loud, but not ear shattering/glass breaking loud like I thought it may be. It is totally acceptable volume wise, and I’m now not concerned at all that it will bother my neighbors.
I must say this exhaust exceeds all my expectations for quality and especially the sound! It is a great deep, loud growl with ZERO drone. I was looking for a sound that was not just deep, but had a growly bite to it. I’m really happy I went with the Atak versus the S Type. There is no rasp to the sound, and as advertised, it is a clean distinctive note throughout the rev band. I am not planning to go with headers, so the Atak version fit my needs. I would think that if you went with headers, the S-Type might be the better choice.
I drove it on the street, freeway and all RPM ranges and can report happily that even with the secondary cat delete – it’s just sweet sound and cruising on the highway it is comfortable, drone free driving. I can clearly see now that Borla did their research, and you truly get what you pay for with these. From the great packaging, to the free hat, to the awesome dual tips and construction, this is a high quality product. I had the install done at Eddie’s Mufflers in Compton. Eddie is a great guy, and fit me in on Sunday afternoon. The install went smooth and easy. I zip tied the NPP connections and covered the connection portions with electrical tape. I highly recommend Eddie’s shop if you live in the area. His prices are great, and his skills are top notch. Overall, as far as sound, quality and zero drone, I could not have made a better choice.

That does sound good! I would be interested in getting it without the valves also because i've had the fused pulled pretty much since i've had the car and don't really see myself using touring mode like you said. I wish I could hear it in person to compare to stock.

Thanks! Yes, hearing the videos does not do it justice at all. I'm going to post a better vid later, as I did this quick one before work. I do have the secondary cat delete, and even with that it's still totally acceptable volume wise. I also did the fuse pull with the stock NPP, and I suppose if I drove my wife around or had little ones, I may be more inclined to need or want the NPP valve option.

Another question but how much louder is it over stock while at idle and WOT?

WOT is is LOUD and beastly - 50% louder perhaps? At idle, its much deeper and maybe a bit louder when settled down.

Awesome i'll probably pick this up sometime seeing as it provides no drone but a good sound.

Thanks! Yeah very happy with this choice - I added a quick inside cabin vid to give an idea of what it sounds like inside. I can't imagine wanting to quiet down to Touring mode with this, I've been driving with the window down to hear that awesome sound since I had it installed.

Going to post one more video with some better revs on the outside. The best video for WOT is the Borla created video.

Sounds Great! We just did an install two weeks ago of an NPP system and the customer was very happy! The install was straight forward and the parts were impeccable. Feel free to contact us for deals and packages@ 443-730-9428!

I have a 2SS, didn't buy a diffuser- by no NPP, I meant that I bought the ATAK version without the valves

How's the sound at highway speed? The main reason I got npp was for it to be mild when cruising as I like to listen to podcasts. Would I have a problem with that? TIA

At highway cruising speed, it's very mild. It's a little louder than stock NPP cruising volume, but in a good way. You hear a nice mellow sound, but not intrusive for phone calls or music listening. I'm actually surprised how quiet it gets, considering how loud it can be and the fact that I also have the secondary cat delete.
