Is the CPU holding back before 1500 miles?

So, the 'book' says break-in at 1500 miles. Does anybody know if the computer is detuning the car until it hits that magic mark? I'm just wondering if i'm going to get a Christmas present when I cross that threshold sometime this next week.

Based on ZL1Tommy videos (stock dyno, dyno runs with upgrades ) and J Hennessey doing roll ons and dyno vids, I would assume these videos were done well before 1500 and these cars dont appearto be 'detuned' before that mark at all.

Now in my experience, with a BMW S1K, it was 'detuned' because it actually had a different rev limiter that could only be unlocked by a tool (tuner) supplied by a dealer so it maxed at 125mph at like 7k RPM every gear.

I dont "think" we have detuned cars from the factory. I "think" 1500 is just a safety measure so consumers dont go out and immediately pin it balls to the wall.

I used HP Tuners to read the stock tune from my car. I can assure you there is no detuning going on during the first 1500 miles.

I don't believe there is any detuning but there is noticeable increase in acceleration as you put more miles on the car.

Wasn't this rumor started during the opening days of the Z06 fiasco?

The only reason you might notice this is due to the engine breaking in and making more power. Once my 2014 broke the 10k mile point it got noticeable more powerful. My wifes Audi is the same way, once we got over 5k miles on it the engine really woke up on it.

I don't think detuning it would necessarily be a bad idea for certain amount of miles so you don't have some knucklehead taking it for a test drive and ringing it out. On the downside serious buyers would not get to feel the real performance the car can put out. My car had 39 miles on it at purchase which I think is a bit excessive for this kind of car especially since the dealer said it had only been on two test drives..

FYI, HP Tuners does not show you 100% of the tables and parameters used in the ECM. There could be Algorithm's and logic programmed into the ECM that could take into account the mileage on the car and therefore retard the timing on you, limit boost, or limit throttle opening or something.

I would look more at any of the Dyno's that have been discussed and see what mileage was on the car. If the power reading on the dyno is within expectations when considering drivetrain losses then I would conclude based on the dyno graphs that the ECM is not reducing power output until 1500 miles.

Don't know. Don't own a Z06 nor have I ever driven one or been to 'their' forum. Surely not starting a rumor, but would appreciate a sincere response.

This has been a rumor since the introduction of the C7, and it was quickly dispelled, but a lot of people thought because the RPM redline changed after 500 miles, somehow the power was diminished prior to that also. Not so.

On the Z06 it has a lowered redline marked on the tach for the first 500 miles. Once you crossed 500 miles it goes to the normal redline. This is on the display only so you can exceed it but clearly GM wants you to break in the motor properly. Also interesting is that the lowered redline is on the display when the motor is cold. It slowly "retreats" as the motor warms up.
