Future Mods - HP and Cost???

Looking at doing some mods to my SS in the future, in the planning stages now.

Considering the following mods:

1. Rotofab CAI
2. EFI Tuning ported throttle body and intake manifold
3. GM heads and cam kit
4. Hooker Black Heart shorty headers
5. Flowmaster mid pipe
6. EFI Tuning Flex Fuel kit

Wondering how much power the above mods would make and at what cost? I know the GM heads and cam kit is supposed to be rated around 535hp (crank) but the throttle body, manifold, and Flex Fuel should increase that number.

Also with the Flex Fuel kit can I run regular 93 octane and then E85 occasionally or do you need to run E85 all the time?

Thoughts, suggestions, advice???

The efi throttle body and intake only showed about a 6hp gain, while the msd showed a 20 hp gain without an upgraded throttle body. Yes you can mix 93 and e85 anytime and how much you want. I paid 2975 to have my cam put in and all my supporting mods in my sig.

The MSD intake loses torque on the low and mid range from the dyno graphs I've seen. I'll consider it though.

I take actual track timeslips into consideration
EFI Tunings:
flex fuel kit with tuning
Ported intake & TB
Rotofab intake

Dragstar wheel set

11.0's at 123mph these products work and for the short list of mods above its hard to beat.

Disclaimer: runs were made in negative 1,500 DA you may "only" run 11.30's or 40's

Also consider the fact that those passes were made in mind shift air conditions.. That same pass in the heat down here in Texas would have been an 11.40 or so.. Great runs with simple ,cost effective mods nonetheless, but something consider. In average conditions, it usually takes about 75rwhp more to shave off about 1 second in et...

The test where it only made 6hp was on an untuned car, on an already tuned car that combo made 17rwhp with no change to the tune. The car where it only made 6hp was also running a full exhaust and already starting to lean itself out on the stock tune.

You paid 2975 for longtubes, cai and a full cam install?
Sounds like deal of the century as long tubes are north of $1k ($2k if with cats), MSD another $1k and cai $400, so you paid $500 for a cam install and tune?

Doesnt quite add up?

You really should put a disclaimer in that the apsses were done at -1500 DA. I picked up 2 tenths over the course of the DA going from 2200 to -300. Those passes would still be impressive for the mods even if they were 2-3 tenths slower (in my book at least).

Do you gain anything with shorty headers? I know you didn't on the 5th Gen, and figured that was even more true with the 6th Gen Tri-Y headers. Why not long tubes and a custom cam?

My point of view is different from many of you...all of my cars for the last 15 years have been forced-induction ('02 WRX, '04 WRX, and '15 Audi S4). So my expectation of power-gain per dollar spent is vastly higher.

I think that if I were to put money in on power mods beyond the intake and axle-back, I would likely go with a blower of some sort. Maybe a cam.

I'm going with shorty headers to keep the stock cat set up.

Thought about a supercharger but want to stay NA.

Well, I thought I got ripped off lol, I purchased all the parts myself and brung them . The mechanic
2975 labor(tune included)(original estimate was 2405 but went up when all done.
Headers-1300 with cats used.
Msd and CAI-1300 from summit.
Cam kit 12×× black friday sale with dod kit, upgraded pushrods, and titanium retainers.
Total about 6795. After flex fuel kit I should be around 535 hp NA which is where I wanted to be as far as hp goes while adding almost no weight to the vehicle. This was my first time adding it up which I avoided doing lol. Also with the small cam my car drives absolutely no different than stock other than the extra power, i can break the tires loose in almost all gears now.

My mods:
1) CAI CAI to Mishimoto to cut stock box and green filter
2) home ported TB and MSD
3) hot cam CNC Heads or Edelbrock (this summer)
4) first I went to front cat delete then to long tubes with off-road pipes
5) one day I'll remove the crush bend with slide hammer and braze holes
6) EFI Tuning Flex Fuel kit and TUNE

My suggestion is do it all at once and get a TUNE, without a Tune the rest is questionable.

Your probably wasting your money on your 4 and 5. I would seriously consider long tubes and green cats if you have to pass smog. If not I'd look at the front cat delete (bolt on), a Tune will fix any O2 issue.

IMO with heads, cam and LT, the MSD is going to be better.

If I do it I'm doing it all at once, then the car can be tuned and set up properly like you said. I'll see about the long tubes, had them on my list at first but thought it would be easier to stay smog legal with the shorty headers.
