Sorry, no snow here since the freak storm of 2008. We got about 3" and it lasted two days

As a car enthusiast who has both lived the "store the car for the winter" philosophy, and the "drive it all year, including the snow" lifestyle....I greatly prefer the latter.

But when I stored the car....taking it out for the season was like getting a new car each year. I can appreciate that feeling.

Driving this car in the snow (with the proper tires) is no different than any other car. And in fact, I think my Camaro is the best car in the winter I've had. Superior weight balance, an incredible traction control system...and lots of heat.

Here's my 1LE last season...

No snow experienced with my 6th Gen SS yet. Did drive my 5th Gen V6 up and down from MI to OH a lot of times in snow showers and A/S tires. It handled pretty well and of course some sensible driving. I only skidded once in light snow in NJ that too when I exited on a ramp. But, I am not sure if that's the car's fault because it could happen to any car. Anyway it skidded for few seconds and aligned itself straight automatically lol!

There was just one thing I found annoying was moving forward in snow after coming to a dead stop ex: a stop light. The car would sway towards the sides before it stabilized.

Drove my 16 SS in the snowstorm yesterday on some Conti 18" (235 width) snow tires. About 5" here in Michigan. Wasn't awful except on the hilly highways- I would have to focus going uphill on staying in the grooves left by other vehicles. Anytime I strayed from the groove (not always easy when it's still snowing fairly hard) I'd start to get slidy.

Nobody really looked better off than me though. Nobody did more than 45mph (more like upper 30s) the whole stretch of highway. Brakes were fantastic still for the conditions.

Man as a Canadian without a Camaro (yet), these stories make me really happy. RWD is a damn shame in the winter but if its contained and properly handled, I'm sure it'll be a great all year round car.

Also, everyone complains about how RWD isn't good for winter but most of the Benz and Beamers I see on the road are RWDs too so whats up with no one criticizing those cars?

I use Pirelli Scorpion Winter. Which are very similar to Pirelli Scorpion Sottozero 3. They're expensive, but completely worth it. Great handling, even in cold temps; and excellent bite in snow, slush, and on ice I've gotten four full winter seasons out of the front tires. Good for one or two more, I think.

It's important to note that not all winter tires are created equal...some are designed for family sedans and trucks...the sidewall and tread shoulder are not designed to maintain high levels of lateral grip.

Since often there is NOT snow on the ground...I like maintain handling, so I buy what are referred to as "Performance Winter Tires".

I suspect it's because they don't realize, because those cars all look humdrum and "common". It's easier to point at the sports car and fear-monger.

There are also multitudes of Cadillacs, RWD trucks, and SUVs that aren't any better off.

It has been my experience that the following is true when it comes to winter driving:

RWD Summer Tires < FWD Summer < AWD Summer < A/S RWD < A/S FWD < A/S RWD < Winter/Snow RWD < Winter/Snow FWD < Winter/Snow AWD

Tires make more of a difference than drive type.

Installed my new snow tires on Saturday, just in time for the "winter storm" on Sunday. I can't believe how great they are. I drove all around for a couple of hours, in 3-4 inches of snow, testing them out and getting a feel for how they performed. No problems! I'm able to stop, steer, and drive up/down hills. It's awesome.

I'm using WS80 Bridgestone Blizzak's.
