Trade 2SS in for a 1LE???? Depreciation /Trade in value.

I plan to do some trackdays next year. Last week, I was doing the math to upgrade my 2ss for the track and then I thought that maybe I should just get a 1LE.

So when I was at the dealer last week I asked what they'd give me on trade if I ordered a 1LE. I knew it was a longshot, but since I was there, why not ask.

The dealer said $30k... I thought it was low because of all the year end deals so I tried carmax today. Same deal $30k.

MSRP was 47k . Wow talk about depreciation. Good thing I got a leftover 2016. Even so, I'd lose $8000 dollars with taxes and need to come up with another $12,000 for the 1LE. It just doesn't work out. It was worth a try, I guess I'll just keep it and upgrade my 2ss. Its a great car as is. I really feel bad for all those who didn't get the year end deals. This is really bad depreciation. Maybe if I could sell it private party for 36,000 it would work out. But thats a hassle.
Kinda hard to call it or complain about "depreciation" when you didn't pay MSRP either.

Very true, I'm not complaining, I was just a little shocked. Thats an $8 or $9000 dollar drop in 2 months, even with the good deal I got. Now if I paid full msrp it would have been a 15,000 to 20,000 drop it would have been worse. That would have been painful. I'm happy with the car so its no big deal to keep it, I was just hopingit would have worked out because I really like the 1LE and regret not waiting for it.

I'm in San Diego and had you bought a manual, I'd try to make a deal with you.

They did offer you on the low side. But you figure the $47,000 car is really worth about $43,000 or so in market value. And then the car instantly loses about 10% when driven off the lot. And it's now a one year old used car, do there goes another 10%. That leaves the value down to about $35,000. The dealership probably wants to make some good money on it, so they offered $30,000. I would think they would offer up to $32,000-33,000 or so.

Honestly with about 3k in suspension parts from BMR it'll be just as good or better.

I paid 50k for mine out the door, and within a month or two both the ZL1 and 1LE were announced and I decided I'd just build it better than either of the two as I don't really care for the badges. Only way I'm getting rid of mine is if it's totaled.

In short, have some fun with it and make it YOURS vs one bought off the lot. More and more aftermarket parts are becoming available. Plus you'll be able to buy whatever you want from Chevrolet and maintain your factory warranty (possibly?)

I'm not sure why you're surprised about the price you're getting. Also not sure why you even bother mentioning MSRP.

If Chevy continues to discount these cars 20%+ and many are buying these $45k cars for $35k, why would you think $30k is unfair?

The market price of these cars is $35k which is why I mentioned that MSRP is irrelevant.

It can be done, but it will take a lot more than $3k. Wheels/tires, big brake kit, and lots of suspension goodies. My guess would be around $8-10K.

Just do a piece of it over time and you can get there.

Wishful thinking but market value is not $35k for these cars just because they are discounting a small number of leftovers.

Bottom line with most new cars. If you try to trade it a few months, you will get burned badly by a dealer. Especially more expensive cars as the depreciation % is a bigger number.

My friend decided after 5 mos, he needed an SUV and traded in his SRT Challenger. $10K hit. Nuts.

The 1LE is a lot more than suspension parts. Even if you could get a suspension to match the track tuned MRC on a 1LE on the track, it would suck on the street.

Then, you would still be missing:

- Specific track oriented stability control options
- Electronic diff
- Bigger and better brakes
- F1 Supercar tires
- Lighter, bigger forged wheels
- A bunch of coolers for engine, trans and diff
- Short throw shifter
- Recaros and other interior bits
- Splitter/Spoiler/Diffuser/Visuals
- Resale value
- Warranty that GM says will be valid even if the car is tracked hard

It would cost a good $15-20K to turn an SS into a 1LE, and certain things like the stability control options would still be missing. You could make a standard SS go around the track as fast as a 1LE, but it would cost a lot of money and would not ride as well on the street.

The price tag on the 1LE option, whether it is V6 or V8, is a killer deal.
