New incarnation of the Tornado?
http://www.airaid.com/search/product.aspx?prod=250-609
This is dripping with "Tornado" lingo. I literally have no idea how it can do any of the things it's reputing to do. On top of that, it's made of aluminum and they missed out on being able to say that it also insulates the intake air against hot underhood temperatures. |

These seem like such BS. Has anyone proved these do anything?

They definitely do something. This one advertises low to mid RPM torque increases. I would guess GM has us tuned to a higher RPM torque advantage with the stock intake length. Like anything, you get tradeoffs either you get a high RPM or low to mid RPM advantage. That cyclone technology seems like bs but thats just me.
Good read if you have 5 minutes:http://www.enginebasics.com/Advanced...%20Length.html |

Yeah, if you strung like six of these together you'd probably twist your rear-end right off.

yall do know that intake spacers have been around for decades.... not really anything like the tornado. they had these big on the J-bodies back when I started. not really anything to write home about.
some have a narrowing funnel design, others are just designed to elongate the intake manifold plenum. (short ram vs long ram intake theory/design) they even have ones with nitrous plates built in. matter of fact, even carbureted engines used em as a performance gain. nothing new really...

yea.. they make sense for carbs because fuel is mixed before it and in many cases the runners on the intake manifold run all the way to the carb. Also they tended to be insulators to keep the carb isolated from the intake manifold (that was made of metal and hot)
Not the case with our engines. Intake manifold is composite Fuel is not mixed in any part of the intake manifold Runners dont extend to the throttle body so all you're extending is the centra cavity's volume of air The spacer is extremely short making any surface features on the interior of the spacer will have very little impact. That's what i connected it to the tornado. Because it's a bunch of crap that might be factual but not when applied in the way it's been manufactured and not on the applications they're being sold for. |
