Thanks your your concern

But as we do live on opposite ends of the country, I doubt we'll ever "run into each other"

Hopefully a couple upcoming surgeries will remove the pressure from my spinal cord and reduce the pain to an acceptable level.

And not to be a jerk, but i will not make any further comments regarding my issues as that's not what this thread is about.

I am interested in what happened to the OP's car and the amount of damage that had to be repaired, and what was able to be moved back into place without any damage.

Well with those bombshells I'll update with the current situation.

Been without my car almost 1 week now. The mechanic was fired.

They are apologetic and of course offering to repair the damage. I saw my car tonight. It was dark so I couldn't do a thorough inspection but I did feel my rocker panels and they are creased.

This one probably isn't much of a shocker...... I offered to resolve the issue by trading in my car for a 2017 and of course throwing in a generous amount of extra money. Turns out my 1 year old $38,000 car is only worth ~ $22,000. So even though I put $10,000 down on my car I'm under water on this loan....... no way I'd roll extra debt into a new loan. I was stupid enough to buy a new car in the one I have. I've always been one to buy a 2 year old car to let the previous owner eat that initial depreciation hit.

So, doesn't seem to be any level of asshole I could reach to resolve this in the way I feel is fair and equitable. Instead I'll be forced to accept replaced rocker panels.

Man, so sorry to hear. Please keep us updated.

I am very interested to know what parts of the car are removable and can be replaced without affecting the structural integrity of the car. I have no idea if the rocker panels have covers on them, and that's what was damaged, or if like most cars, the exposed rocker panels are part of the body structure. (Sorry I dont have my car yet, or I would just go out and look)

Keep after the dealer, they will try to throw you a bone and hope you take it. Their first offer, is generally just that, a first offer in hopes they can get out cheap.

That sucks but I suggest you don't go down without a fight. They should offer more of a compensation rather than just fix the car. Maybe extra money or any sort of life time services or warranty extension. You should definitely not let them get away with it. They damaged your car and that will not be good for the future. So I do hope you get something out of it. Good luck!

OP, I'm sorry you had this happen to your beautiful car. But honestly, do you think they would just give you a new car for your troubles???? You're right.....their reaction wasn't a shocker. I worked for years in "Executive Appeals" for a very large corporation and the consumer's notion of "big pockets" is a misguided one. For goodwill they might throw in a few free service visits/ upgraded floor mats. A token gesture. The dealership is obligated to fix the damage they caused....that's it. Because it happened at the dealership it probably wont end up on a car fax report so there goes your diminished value claim. Who knows, your car may have fallen off the transporter when it was delivered to the dealership and they fixed it like new and put it on the lot. Use your negotiation skills to have the work done where you prefer to have it done. The downside to that is it may end up on a carfax report. Just some random thoughts. Oh and BTW, the guy lost his job over this....just before Christmas. I would feel terrible knowing I had a hand in taking someone's livelihood away from them, especially at this time of year.

They can do more, my son had an issue with his 2015 SS and he came away with an extra warranty, 100k miles bumper to bumper. They offered him that or to make 2 car payments.

Like it was said above use your negotiation skills.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said a "generous amount of money". I'm a reasonable person.

My property was damaged/mistreated. I expect some sort of compensation for the damage / inconvienence / and time without my car. Fixing it is one thing. Making me happy about the resolution is an entirely different thing.

Notice that I still haven't thrown anyone under the bus. No one has been named. I wasn't looking for a replacement car and I've handled this entire situation calmly.

First thing I said when informed that the mechanic is no longer employed there is "I feel bad for them.... I would never want someone to lose their job." But, at the same time..... I Wont lose any sleep for the employee. That was a completely irresponsible and lazy mistake.

Enough said. I'll continue updating to the thread anything pertinent. I'm sure this will all end well. I'll have an independent shop check the car out to make sure there isn't any extra damage.

Edit: I certainly hope that I don't sound like a drama queen with my postings to this thread. Outside of my inner circle of friends this is the only place I've shared and vented about my poor car's plight.

I honestly believe that I've been a bit too passive and "nice".

I am glad you live on the opposite side of the country. And maybe you just mis-typed and there is no issue....................
Believe it or not, people that are disabled and on pain meds long term can and do function normally. My father has been on pain meds for 15+ years and will be for the rest of his life - he drives every day better than 90% of the people on the road.

There is a reason why many pain meds say dont drive until you know how it will affect you.....

I suppose that's true and I apologize if I offended the OP.

I am just a little touchy about the subject since a drugged up moron made a right turn on red directly in front of me while I was going 60 miles an hour on my motorcycle. But for the grace of God I didn't lose my life.

WOW. I applaud you for handling this so calmly. Not sure if contacting someone at GM about this would help? I feel like jacking a car is pretty fundamental. I hope they get this taken care of for you

Th dealer will fix the car, look to them to give you a free oil change or something for your trouble. GM does not compensate the customer directly for dealer mistakes. Right or wrong, that's the way it t is....

come on GM step up and build the car with stationary jack pads, like bmw. although, by starting now would almost admit fault.

make things easier for your customers and technicians

Fault?

The cars have recommended lift points. Every dealer has access to those technician documents that specify.

The lifts are supposed to have pads installed, and if they don't that's user error.

Meanwhile, those BMW stationary pads get f'd up with repeated use, could potentially hit driveway ramps/curbs, add extra weight, and cost to the car.

They're a neat idea...but IMO, it's just one more overcomplicated solution that the Germans came up with to a simple problem.

Besides....permanent jack pads may not have prevented this.....the tech either didn't use the right lift feet, or missed the appropriate lift points altogether.
