Maggie, 91 octane, water, and 600+HP?
Thanksgiving is a great holiday - full of family, friends, and food. The day after that? Well some folks go shopping, we go to the dyno.
![]() Since my wife and daughters had big plans to hit the mall, my son and I thought it would be a perfect day to see what we could do on the dyno with the Camaro on 91 pump gas and also get some data from the Rotofab intake that we had recently installed. Modifications to the 2016 Camaro SS for this test are as follows: Magnuson Supercharger with 85mm pulley Lingenfelter High Flow High Pressure DI fuel pump AEM Water injection system - single nozzle, largest size (~550cc/min) Windshield Washer fluid -20F, cheap stuff, shake vigorously then stop, if the bubble go away immediately it's the one you want - without other additives like soap. The -20 fluid will have about 30% methanol, while my preference is to just run straight water, the system will be damaged if freezing occurs so I prefer enough meth to avoid that problem. Rotofab CAI with dry filter (highest flowing option). With the large water injection nozzle installed, tank full of WW fluid, and the AEM controller set to start flow at 2 psi and full flow at 7.5 psi we started tuning with the Rotofab intake until we found a comfortable power number which produced no knock across the entire run. The performance is shown below: First off this is quite impressive. The most I can comfortably make on the dyno with straight 91 octane pump gas is right about 550 RWHP (not 1 off hero runs, 3 runs back to back runs that stay at 550 HP). This is an improvement of about 70 RWHP with water and Rotofab on 91 pump fuel. At this point we made a switch to the factory air-box and made a quick pull before that car had time to make much (if any) long term fuel trim changes. Now this isn't as thorough as the testing that Jannetty did where he tuned each intake for consistant A/F and timing (I didn't have enough time to create 2 tunes), it still showed some differences. Pull from stock airbox is below. So, what can we see from the comparison? We had an increase with the Rotofab of about 11RWHP. Peak torque with the stock airbox and this cal was slightly higher (6.1 ft-lbs). NOTE - Both of which can be influenced with calibration and may yield different final values if the tune was optimized for each air-box. But the biggest difference that caught my eye was the boost pressure - from 4000 RPM and higher at about 10psi the Rotofab provided at least a .2psi increase in manifold pressure. I ran at least 3 pulls with both airboxes and while each airbox had different impact on the long term fuel trims, the difference in boost pressure remained the same. I will note that the Rotofab MAF transfer function tends to result in a -2 to -3 long term fuel trim at WOT where the factory airbox generally is right at 0. I did have to adjust the MAF curve to get my trims back to zero, so this will cause an otherwise stock vehicle to run a couple percent leaner for more power, but that shouldn't be confused with power that is truly delivered from an increase in flow. At this point it's up to you to decide what .2psi boost increase is worth, you can probably figure out my opinion from my more recent posts - it's still on this car... |

It's bizarre to me just how different cars with similar mods perform! Nice numbers! I'm sure you love it!! Congrats, my friend!

This looks very similar to what I have planned. Lower boost for me so hoping to see 530 to 550 on 6.5 lbs of boost with Meth and Rotofab CAI. Gonna start off with 105 mm pulley and then add the meth and 95 mm pulley.

Wow! That's a helluva gain from the Rotofab and Meth

So this is the pump you added? and you did not need to mess with the Cam, injectors, or tank pump? Also were you running out of fuel and needed the pump?

i think that $1500 pump might be worth it. Assuming you have a capable low side fuel system I bet the lt4 hp pump runs out before the lt4 injectors. So many specific fuel system questions that I am not at all clear about. |

We Probably need to go to the vette forum.. did you see those prices 500 bucks for injectors, 1500 for a pump.. 5k I though the 5k sytem was left with my 5th gen for squash or fore. That's nuts.. I may get a mustang lol

I ran out of fuel with the stock pump at about 620RWHP. With the big pump I have been able to run up to the 690 RWHP number (with a 50/50 water meth mix through a 1000cc/min nozzle) at which point my low pressure side is down to about 30psi and I'm very close to the LT1 injector limit with a 6.5ms pulsewidth. I could probably make it to 700RWHP on the dyno, but wouldn't want to run it at the track without at least some amount of margin. |

Awesome info.. ty I ended up calling lingenfelter they said with that pump and there injesters 900 hp but take 30%loss for e85 so thay would be about right for e85. But the injectors are 495.00 each this is just great abother 5k fuel system for a camaro.

![]() Please note that you will not know that have run out of fuel on an LT1 from a Wide Band 02 sensor, if you are used to tuning an LS engine, these are a bit different. Running out of fuel means that the high pressure system begins to lose fuel pressure, this causes the system to increase pulsewidth in order to flow the correct amount of fuel. The next thing that happens is that your pulsewidth grows larger than your injection window (about 340 degrees - depending on ignition timing) and the engine will start to miss. Nothing like what happens to a multiport engine. |

Dam Mike that's a lot of stuff coming out that I don't understand about all the pressures and what happened to Holley Carbs. Just kidding. I'm just not a tuning guy at all.

Every car is different whipple is claiming 600 at the wheels with no other mods.. so cai and headers would be at that 620 mark easy. So I think it depends on what your running (how much air your system moves) turbos, whipple, maggi, or eforce to when you need the fuel pumps or injectors...
I just saw a local shop I'm in houston make 770 on a zl1 with a pulley and e85. I'm thinking the zl1 is worth the extra money now if it's gonna take a 5k fuel system plus labor.
