Thumbs down 6 Speed manual fail after 1200 miles

Ordered a 2017 50th Anniversary Edition, fully loaded. The Transmission made a loud clunk and then start to chirp loudly. This happened in sixth gear at 60 mph on the freeway. The car has 1200 miles. After a week convincing GM that a new transmission was need a replacement was authorized. We have been waiting for over a month now and all GM will say is that a transmission is not available and they do not know when one will be available. Both the dealer and I have pushed this up the ladder as far as we can and still no commitment when the car will be fixed. I contact the CEO of GM and she has assigned it to someone in her office. This is a completely unacceptable response from GM and hope the CEO's office is honestly going to try to resolve this major problem within GM!

I agree it is unacceptable and there should be trannys available for warranty issues such as yours.

Of course there is a transmission available, but instead of sending it to fix your car that is already bought and paid for they will use it to build another car to sell.

That's one assumption to make....

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience, Booley. I hope they figure this out for you, quickly.

30 days out of service = lemon law buyback.

Another option is to get the local media involved... this always seems to get things moving quickly.

Lemon Law

I did contact Mary T. Barra, CEO of General Motors, she did respond by giving my case to someone in her office. After 4 days they still do not have an answer. I am pursuing the Lemon Law replacement, but we ordered a fully loaded 50th anniversary edition, 2 SS. It will take months for this car to be built, not to mention the time to resolve a Lemon Law claim. GM said they cannot pull a transmission off the assembly line due to the Vin #. I would appreciate anyone's comment regarding this.

Thanks

Booley56 i hope this is resolved soon but what GM is doing is unacceptable in my view.

They should at the very least replace the tranny in days. At best replace the car.

I'm looking at buying a Camaro but this treatment of you gives me pause

The Dealer has worked hard and is as frustrated as we are. The car has tied up one of their service bays for going on five weeks. I have been a loyal GM fan for almost 40 years. Between personal vehicles and company fleet vehicles, I have purchased upwards of 50 GM products. As of today I have made my last purchase and that bothers me as much as the wife not having her baby!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your transmission, but I'm fascinated that you got through to the CEO of GM. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know GM had a woman CEO, and she's been in that position since 2014.

Here she is cruising Woodward ave in a classic Camaro.
