I wouldn't say night and day, although it is noticeable. I would say the BOSE definitely hits a little harder and a little cleaner, for a lack of a better way to explain. In the end for me, it wasn't worth the extra coin, but I was very budget minded and more focused on the driving experience rather than the sound system.

I will say the 1LE's speakers are lackluster at best. I think the first step is some sound deadening in the doors and rear trunk area. Once the cabin is a little more sealed, it'll be time to start playing with sound. I'd recommend SoundSkins, I had them in my Golf R and they're light and incredibly useful.
What song do you usually play when it's cranked? I would use this as a theme song.

You should hit up your local dealer and compare the two sound systems.

Gm base stereo systems are notoriously awful.

I think you should do whatever you can to get the bose system in your vehicle of choice!

It definitely gets the job done, but if you're someone that enjoys music and enjoys cranking it up loud, get the 2SS Bose.
Have to agree with you on that. Rented a 1SS recently drove for about a week. Came back to my 2SS at home and could say the same with day and night difference in the 2. While having a many aftermarket systems in the past and stock BOSE systems in prior cars the BOSE in the 2SS really is pleasurable sound system to say the least. I do like to not have it on at times like others and just hear and enjoy the engine/exhaust but when the time and need for music comes i like to turn it up and have that bass pumping....

Keep in mind this thread is in the 1LE sub forum, the vast majority of us either have the car on order or have a 1LE, only a few lurkers. Which means we have chosen to have performance take precedence over the sound system. We don't exactly have the choice to get the Bose system, just wanted to know how much our non Bose system was going to suck. Not which system to get, that decision has been made.

Nothing a few aftermarket speakers can't fix.
And cheaper than attempting to (and failing at) recreate the performance of a 1LE in a 2SS with a fancy stereo and led mood lighting.

the 1SS sound system is ok, can turn it very loud and theres no crackely or farting sound. its pretty clear, but does not offer a broad frequency range, def not out to impress anyone. its just a quality basic sound system.
im thinking it a weight decision.

Honestly, my only complaint about my new 1LE is the stock sound system is horrible! I have had a number of different cars (some premium audio others not) and all of them sounded a lot better...but like people have said before, I absolutely didn't buy a 1LE to listen to music

just a speaker upgrade would fix it or would you need a amp added to a small sub?

If you do components in the front and some coaxial rear quarter panels you can get respectable base without an amped sub. but a small sub and amp is definitely better. 90% of your sound stage should be from the front anyways, some people will even say you need no rear fill. You can get a good amount of mid base etc from the door components.

the speakers seem like quality and are well matched for the power, theres just not that much power and/or high-pass filters to chop out low frequencies.. so yeah amp, then possibly speakers to match depending on stock speaker limits.

And that is the function of a car stereo system: Decent quality sound. If anyone needs audiophile quality sound in a performance car, they have their priorities misplaced. The V-8 should be your audio track.

If I want high quality audio, I'll go home and sit in the middle of my home theater setup.

If that is a priority for anyone, go 2SS for the win.

If it's a priority you should be putting in high end aftermarket components.. which is easier to do on the 1SS.
