LT1 rotating assembly

How good is the crank , connecting rods and pistons in the LT1 ?
Are the pistons cast...what about the powder forged rods ? Do they suck like fords ?
Does it use a cheap oil pump gear like the ford 5.0?
I am thinking of getting an SS and supercharging so I am trying to find out the limitations.

To answer your question in a nutshell, just about everything has its limitations. To say an LT1 can withstand nearly 900 boosted flywheel hp without coming apart while in its current state knock down 20+mpg is an engineering marvel to say the least. I would use the search button to gather your info.

Just curious, but why not get a zl1 instead and save yourself any headache?

If your going to push for higher horsepower, The newer(2015+) 5.0 is going to take it better. The LT1 is a strong engine but the pistons seem to be the weak link. 650-700 whp. Don't get me wrong, thats a LOT of horsepower but a 5.0 with billet oil pump gears and crank sprocket will run 700-800 all day long and not break a sweat. The second part to that equation is fuel system. The LT1 fuel system upgrades are expensive.

That being said. If your looking for anything other than max boosted HP, the camaro and its LT1 can not be beat. It makes so much more bottom end torque and accelerates so much better in daily driving. I think we are going to see small cam bolt on cars making near 500rwhp with almost perfect drivability. I love my 16 and it is so much fun to drive. I test drove a 16 5.0 and it really disappointed me.

A friend of mine broke a rod in his C7 on the dyno. He was pushing 927 lb/ft of torque at the wheels when it happened. So, the bottom ends are plenty strong.

Just looking at MSRPs, the ZL1 starts at $61,140. Say you can get one at 20% off, you're looking at $48,912. The 1SS starts at $37,900. With the 20% deal, you are looking at $30,120. Now, you can get a TVS 2300 kit for $6,925.50, which brings you to a total of $37,045.50 for the supercharged SS, or $11,000 under the price of the ZL1, which most likely will be excluded from the 20% sales. Since we know that the SS is included in the 20% deals, then it is safe to assume that there would be a $24,094.50 difference between a ZL1 and a supercharged 1SS. Even if you paid someone to install it for you, no one is charging $25,000 to install the unit. But if someone is, bring the car to me and I'll do it for $20,000.

Sure, the ZL1 retains the full warranty, but some people just aren't concerned about that.
