Octane Requirements for 2017 ZL1

Anyone know if the 2017 ZL1 will run on 91 Octane? Live in Denver and not sure if 93 Octane is available. 91 Octane is highest I have seen. I have not done an extensive search, hoping someone can save me the time. Expecting
delivery of a white 2017 ZL1 in 2 weeks.

Of course it will, GM would have a helluva warranty problem if someone had a problem running 91 when that's all that was available. There's very little difference between 91 and 93, not enough to matter unless you're racing in a professional situation.

Same in Kansas. All the car guys know that there are 3 stations that have 93 otherwise its 91.

I am sure the "Z" will be fine with a diet of 91 Octane... Although I will try to keep a couple gallons of 93 handy

You're in Denver ... you don't need as high an octane as those living at sea level. Lower air density at high altitude means that when the air charge gets compressed, it doesn't get as hot. Since its not as hot, its less likely to pre-ignite. And because thats all a higher octane fuel does (resist pre-ignition), a lower octane fuel can be used without any issue.

Besides, even if you were at (or near) sea level, 91 should still be fine. Thats all a lot of places have for premium and GM (as well as every other manufacturer) is well aware of it and build their engines accordingly.

Torco.... Z06 guys running 91 swear by it. Less knock count and less timing being pulled on dyno.

I'm going to "assume" you need 'at least' 91 octane, but running 93 octane will not hurt. I run 93 octane in my Roush Stage 3, which is tuned for 91 octane right out of Roush's facility and it runs absolutely flawless. Actually, on cold days I can hear the supercharger whine slightly with the stock airbox and big 82mm pulley. Impressive.
Also, the 93 octane will bump up HP and TQ a bit as well, if tuned for 91 octane.

Actually that's exactly the opposite. 93 octane will only give you better performance if you are tuned for it. The higher octane allows you to advance the timing a little more, therefore bumping power a tad. Being tuned for 91 and using 93, will most likely not change anything, and if it did, it would decrease performance.

Whatever you do, don't cheap out one time and put anything lower than 91. I did it 2 times in my Z06 and had to spend $1500 for new cats. I had hella engine knock. I put in 2 tanks of 89 cus I'm an idiot. I had no idea the car was that phinicky.

People make mistakes.

I almost put diesel in my 2012 ZL1 the second time I was at a gas station with it. An attendant inside the store came running out before I stuck it in the car....

Yeah. I had one save me from doing the same thing to my turbo Ford Probe years ago. She simply turned the pump off as soon as I pulled the trigger and came over the speaker telling me why. I was so glad she did!
