How are the RS All-Seasons in the snow?

I took delivery on my A8 V6 RS-package (a 39 mo lease) in May and was planning on testing the rubber out in the winter before shelling out for snow tires.

I live on a boarding school campus in CT, so yes it snows, but my "daily commute" is about 1/8 of a mile, so I don't need Jeep-like performance.

Here's my question: how reasonably can I get around town in a few inches of snow with the all-seasons that came with my car?

... and before someone says it... Yes, the Vitesse will get turned down.

I live in Michigan and plan on running my all seasons in the winter. With that being said, if the front end is plowing snow don't go out. The thing with winter tires is they have a rubber compound that doesn't lose performance below 45 degrees. Never bought snow tires for anything I've owned, yet again this is my first Camaro.

Most all seasons are OK for a few inches. I'd even go as far as checking their rating for snow on tire rack.

Last year though I opted for blizzak snow tires and it was the better choice. Cause a few inches plowed vs a few inches unloved can make a huge difference. And that's just in the mid Atlantic.

Now I will say I ran continental dws the year before that. Trips to Philly and wv during snow storms want n issue...so if you're only an 1/8 mile drive. Shouldn't be an issue.

i live in buffalo ny, and we have some crazy snow fall here. i got my camaro in February. when the car was in snow mode the car preformed better than my chevy cruze. just turn the traction off and you are pretty good to go. i only had an issue one day. we got about 18" in 2 to 4 hours and it s was super heavy wet snow. no one was able to get throught it. my father met me up half way from work to follow me home some some one didnt run into my 2 week old car. he had to call me to tell me he couldnt keep up because his truck was all over the place and couldnt get traction. i never once went out side and said well i cant go to work because there is snow on the ground. i was confident i knew how to drive in snow and that my car would get me where i needed to get to. just dont be dumb and you got this!

You should be fine.. as said.. turn off traction control when you are trying to get moving.. it will stop enough power from getting to the wheels when you really just need to spin them to get moving. It is what I did in my Gen 5 and what I'll do in the 6.

Interesting to hear that turning TC OFF actually helps gain traction. In what scenarios is disabling TC beneficial?

when takeing off. any small slip will activate it. it will make the car fall on its face and loose any momentum you had going for you. turn it on when you are moving though so you have the safety of it when at speed. my chevy cruze was the same way. that car would not move out of its own shadow in the snow with it on its just easier to manage the power going to the wheels when you dont have it on.

This is great advice thanks. I'm sure I'll end up using it. Gotta love this forum!

1/8 of a mile? Did I read that right? My driveway is longer than that.

You can't walk when it snows?

BTW, starting a car and only driving it 1/8 mile at a time is hell on it.

minus 40 degrees?!?

I don't know how you survive that.

Do you have to keep an engine warmer on your Camaro to start in the mornings?

Are there just places to plug diesel engine heaters everywhere? My diesel truck barely starts when it is in the teens if it is not plugged in!
