That is what Ford is seeing more than anything on the Mustang. Yes, winter is coming, etc, but a lot of would be buyers are waiting to see what the '18 looks like. It is very common to see a big downturn when a refresh or new model is coming.
This still begs the question...Does the "regular" car buying public even know a mid-cycle refresh is coming for the Mustang (outside of enthusiast magazines and websites)? I suspect it would impact sales in a miniscule way.

The average person buying a base model, probably not, those that are looking at the GT and up more than likely are cross shopping. If they're not, and they've always "wanted" x/y/z, they are going to either run out and buy it, or wait for the newest one which is what we are seeing now, most people that wanted this gen Mustang have it.

This doesn't seem to be worth holding out for

http://www.autoblog.com/2016/11/21/2...ed-auto-no-v6/

But I agree most people are not on enthusiast web sites every day tracking the features and options of the upcoming model years for a new car purchase.

There is a lot of talk during a campaign, but do not trust that actual policy will mirror rhetoric. I do not see Trump as principled, i.e. he does not seem to have an overall guiding ideology as say a Ron Paul does. So I think reality will be somewhat different.

Nonsense, my RS is my daily driver -- good to have a fun drive to work!

Camaro's to me are the fun/extra car to have. Not the day-to-day go to vehicle.
Not surprising that production is slowing. Dealerships parking lots are full - regardless of brand type.

(off topic: can't decide, coupe or vert.)

Are you suggesting this won't be the promised rebirth of big oil, steel mills, clean coal and the Motor City?

I think he will do something to increase auto manufacturing in the US, maybe Trump may impose smaller tariff, ultimately it will help the displaced auto employees as well as bring some new employees into the market.
And you know the car companies will make it work for them.
Buy American will be the mantra again,

I'd say at this point....no.

Not even a whole lot of guys that consider themselves a "car guy" know the refresh is coming. A co-worker of mine is a Mustang fan, but has no clue its coming.

That said, as more reports hit the web for the refresh the enthusiast crowd that likes to read online stuff will notice.

One of the biggest reasons cited - especially on this website - for the lackluster 2015 Camaro sales was the news of the upcoming 6th gen as it was for the 2013 downturn ahead of the 2014 refresh.

Yet that same reasoning is not applicable to a downturn in Mustang sales? That the 'general car buying public' is not aware of any upcoming changes for the Mustang?

In this internet age and given the enormous amount of information that is out there, I would be stunned to think that any buyer of any vehicle - a very expensive purchase - would not know about upcoming changes. Sure, there are some but those cannot be the norm.

Most of today's buyers do not just blindly walk into a dealership thinking of 'What kind of vehicle do I want or need?' - they know what they are looking for and the majority of them have researched their purchase.

Vette's inventories currently standing at an unprecedented 122 days supply. Major cash incentives are now available through Costco. What's that tell you about sport cars, sedans futures? It's all about this John Wayne stuff via their kick ass SUV's and picky up trucks.

Do you think that it would be a bad time to order a Camaro right now. With this and Christmas coming up? People distracted and thinking about the holidays?

Absolute best time to buy a new car is the last 10 days of December. All dealers are trying to close monthly, quarterly and annual mfr goals.

Only you really know that answer based on your situation. If it's the build quality I don't think it would be any different than any other time of the year given the QC they use at the plant.

However, there are a LOT of cars on the ground right now - maybe you could find what you want already built?

Good luck!

Very true - and you will get the absolute best deal on a car that is already built, especially one that has been in inventory for weeks or months.
