Hi guys, just joined the forum after trading in my 2015 Challenger Hellcat M6 on a 2016 Callaway Camaro 1SS A8. I've always been a GM guy and traded in a 2004 Corvette Z06 for the Hellcat. At the time I thought I wanted out of the small sports car and in a bigger more luxurious car with big power, but after owning the Hellcat for 1 year 4 months and 7522 miles i got rid of it.

My buddy here LS6Larry and I switched cars while on a cruise a few weeks ago and I could instantly tell how much better the SS drove. Then I was actually looking for a C7 when the Callaway popped up on a side ad. Well the price with the Callaway package was under the MSRP of the stock car so we made the 5 hour drive to Philadelphia and I bought it Saturday. I never thought I would own a yellow car, but the deal was too good to pass up. Didn't really want to give up the manual yet either, but these damn autos are getting too good.
Wow, a Hellcat for a Camaro SS? That's bold man and I would probably trade Hellcat for ZL1 ANYDAY!

So how does it feel, was the Hellcat that much faster? How did the extra weight feel with the kitty?

Something good for a 100 mile per day round trip commute. Then, somewhere in the middle of it all, he made the mistake of uttering the word "Camaro".

A little back story: I bought a 2000 Camaro SS in 2007 (see my avatar). My wife LOVED that car. She literally cried when I sold it in 2012.

Fade back to the dealership. He asks if we'd be interested in a V6 Camaro. She laughs at him, apologizes for the outburst, then says "No" with about the most serious look I've seen her have. So then we start talking SS, and she starts getting really excited...and from that point until the numbers worked out and I was signing papers is still a blur in my mind. When they asked about color and options the only stipulations she had were "white and manual". I could see where she was going with it. She even asked (because she honestly didn't know) if there was a T-top option lol. She was looking to get as close to the old car as possible. They didn't have any on the lot, but went for a dealer swap. So we waited through the weekend and took delivery on a Tuesday.

So now I daily drive a 2016 Camaro 1SS in Summit White, and my wife and I couldn't be happier (save for a CEL coming up lately for a rough idle at cold start, but that's what the warranty is for )
LOL, your wife is badass man. My girl although doesn't really know the differences yet I think she'll be fine with a 2.0 Turbo lol

Paid off my 2012 in August, looked at the cost of getting 20" rims, new tires and remote start installed then compared it to getting a new V6 RS. After browsing online for a few weeks I decided to pull the trigger and called a dealership over 100 miles away for a quote.

I learned one important thing about shopping for a Gen 6: make sure you have the finances hashed out as much as possibe before you test drive one because you won't want to drive home in your old ride!

I went from a v6 2014 Camaro to my 2016 2SS... Basically what I wanted was a good corner carver with show car looks. And the Camaro delivers.

But I wasn't set on getting the SS; I was debating between getting a 2015/2016 BRZ/FR-S or a 6th gen Camaro.

I really wanted one of the twins over the Camaro because I love all the aftermarket potential and possibilities out there for those cars, and even tho it wouldn't have the power to brag about, with some unequal length headers, you could get that nice subie burble that is in my opinion just as sweet as the sound of an American V8.

but I couldn't get past the fact that with a twin, you would have to start with a weak 200Hp, and living in Cali, boosting that power is a hassle that I don't care for.

So I went with the Camaro mainly because of the power and because I do love the sound of a V8, and I knew that if I got a v6 Camaro again, I would still have that itch for a V8 that would continue to drive me nuts.

I'm still hoping that the aftermarket companies keep putting out more things out for the 6th gen, but things aren't looking to promising with sales being so low... I'm pretty upset that Airlift Performance isn't doing anything for the 6th gen being that demand for their 5th gen kit was so low, I cant imagine demand being any better for the 6th gen based on the smaller sales figures, and that was the mod that I wanted the most...

Overall I'm happy with my 6th gen, but I know I could be happier. it sucks that my plans for the car my not go all the way, but I still love the car, and it has provided me with several smiles and victories on my "track" days and on-the-fly runs in "mexico".

Short answer, the power this thing produces made me switch.
Detailed answer, I've always wanted something with this type of driving excitement. I came from a 2016 WRX Limited. After 14 months and just over 14,000 miles, I decided to sell it. Luckily the resale on Subaru is pretty good and I didn't lose much. I had plans of doing some light modifications but with the introduction of DI to the WRX, guys were blowing engines on the regular. It scared me enough to stay stock, which didn't give me the excitement I remember having when I test drove one in 2002. I test drove a Mustang GT back in 2009 and LOVED it. Felt similar to a friends Dinan E39 M5. Wanted it since, and almost bought a 2016 GT until a friend said I should check out an SS first. After a back to back test drive on the same winding road, the Camaro felt more planted and stable even though I didn't like that it had poorer visibility and less storage space. I don't regret it though, I was after the excitement afterall.
The discount tag didn't hurt either.

Why did I switch? Last car was a 2011 V6 Camaro that I loved. Several things convinced me to switch:

1. My old Camaro was fully paid off for several years, and still had significant value (it was low mileage too). So, a lot of the cost is offset by the trade-in value, and I have been tripling the payments so I don't have a car payment when my son goes to college.

2. LT1 Engine.

3. Alpha Chassis.

3. Magnetic Ride Control.

4. Dual Mode Exhaust.

5. A8 is a great performer (if this were a weekend/track-only car, I would get the manual, but since it's my daily driver, the bad traffic in my area, and the fact that my wife will have to drive it when I use her SUV, I need the auto).

6. Track ready out of the box (extra coolers etc..) without sacrificing daily driving comfort.

7. Driving modes (makes the car easy to drive for my wife, but a beast at the track).

8. The precise handling (I live in a river valley with nothing but windy hilly back roads for miles).

I came from a 2010 2SS LS3/6 speed that was modded to a 2SS '16 6 speed and don't have any regrets! The '10 needed new tires, shocks and struts and possibly a clutch and a better tune( LTs with x-pipe full SLP loudmouth 2 exhaust and SLP CAI) because the LS3 seemed to be running a little slower than normal. Had a hp Tuners tune in the car. Even though the '10 had over 72,000 miles I still got a good trade in for it and didn't have to spend any more money on it. The posters are right about test driving one! I was hooked after I drove mine and it didn't take too long to decide to buy it! Sometimes I do miss the old '10 hotrod but the '16 is so much better in every aspect. I can always mod the new one if I decide to but right now it's good to go for me.

Why did I switch..well I been daily driving my 4th gen z28 for the past 16 or so years. I was long over due for a new car.

I had thought getting a 5th gen, but I could never get over how bad the interior was/is. Plus it just felt big and heavy. So I eagerly awaited for them to put the 5th gen out to pasture and see what they would do.

While years went on I considered a Sonic hatchback RS, Buick GS, and Honda Accord Coupe. A Mustang will never be a consideration. I like to feel like I'm sitting inside the car. The Mustang feels like your sitting on top of the car, plus it's Ford. Can't do it lol.

After the debut of the 6th gen with the Alpha platform and a more sophisticated look and new interior I was pretty much sold on it. The smaller tighter proportions of it all come together. I feel like the 6th gen is what GM wanted to 5th gen to be from the start. One of my favorite things about the 6th gen is the chopped look with narrow windows. Now when I drive another car I feel like I'm in a fish bowl. I hope the Camaro continues with low slung roof/windows.

And for once, I didn't feel I needed or wanted a V8. I narrowed it down the V6 and Turbo 4. Both felt fantastic and I chose to go with the V6. Had my car a few months now and it's pleasure to drive.

I had two Gen5s and loved each of them....but was always thinking "Go for the C7". The Gen6 changed all that. It has most of the bits that I love in the C7, mag ride and of course the LT1 but it's much more comfortable than the C7 so, to me, it was a no brainer to buy the Gen6. AND I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!!!!

I was really set on getting a C7. I had traded my 335i and bought a 2015 WRX. The WRX was a peculiar itch that I had. The car was practical and fun enough. However, it wasn't really fast. The C7 just kept calling. However, when the Gen6 came along and the reviews started to pile up, I started to lean to the Gen6. Then I drove one ....

Found what I was looking for in a dealership just down the road from the house. Sold the WRX and the rest was just fun driving.

I was set to get a Mustang and came across a screaming deal on the Camaro.

Everything from the engine, transmission, suspension, and technology are improved or next generation by comparison.

So I wasn't even aware of the gen 6 update actually. Long time Camaro and vette owner had 4 of each but mostly into bmws lately. Daily driver is a e39 M5. Weekend car was a E93 328i vert. Decided I liked the size and vert aspects just wanted something with more hot rod ness. So started looking into M3 and 335is. Then remembered the GT500 and found a few garage queen low mile examples in vert trim in my mid $30K price range.

Then for some unknown reason took a look at camaros and then read about the gen 6 updates and saw a few with pretty interesting discounts in the $8-9K range.

Found my car - - a hyperblue 1SS vert and thought hey if I could snag this one for mid$30Ks I should at least test drive it to compare to the M3 right ?

Well - dealer came back with the right price and I got buy I'm from the wife so I went to drive it. Damn - the reports were right - this new Camaro is fantastic - especially in vert format. Drove it home that day ! Right around 20pct off. That was September before the actual 20pct tags.

To be fair he traded it in for a callaway Camaro. So not much of a downgrade

I don't know if "switch" is the right word. I've owned a 3rd, 4th, 5th, and now 6th gen. I bought one to feed my addiction because I have a real problem. Though the 3rd gen will always have a special place in my soul, the 6th gen is by far the superior of any vehicle I've owned.
