Data recorder after purchase?
Sorry in advance if this has been posted elsewhere can't find it anywhere... Anyways!
I was wondering if the track data recorder was optional for the turbo 4 ? And if so can this be added after purchase or is it something that needs to be installed when customizing your own.... Because I'm probably going to buy one that is already built and just sitting in a lot soon and I'm sure I won't get lucky and grab one that has that option installed since most I've seen don't mention that as a feature... I'm really interested in having that data recorder for some track days

From my dealing with my previous other GM cars, I doubt you can add the PDR on after the fact. The data the PDR gets comes from the ECM, TCM and BCM. GM has been tight lipped about adding optional electronic items after the vehicle has been built.
A lot of the truck owners want the OEM trailer Brake Controller, to this date GM has still refused to allow them to be added onto a truck that didn't come with them from the factory. |

Damn Chevy
that's messed up I like that option... Especially that it integrated in to the dash screen I know there are side products you can probably get with its own little screen and everything but just not the same it not as clean...

It's not just GM. Multiplexing technology makes accessories harder to add on after the car is built.

Speaking of alternatives I have been very interested in the Garmin VIRB auto racing bundle that is an all in one solution. It comes with the OBD2 data relay and will automatically create data overlays so no need to combine and sync your data and video after a race. I am showing the Garmin VIRB Auto Racing bundle for $339 over on Amazon right now which is a pretty damn good deal considering to do the same thing with a GoPro you need the camera, OBD2 relay, data logger software on your phone and video editing software to combine data and video on your computer not to mention your time to edit everything. If I had a 6th Gen that didn't come with a PDR I wouldn't even consider a retrofit at this time with something like this available right out of the box.

Unfortunately no. Here is a picture from the 2017 order guide. The PDR is only available on the non ZL1 models with either the V6 1LE or V8 1LE options. I would imagine they would probably offer it more widely in the future but for now that's it.
