A8 Upshift

I find that my transmission is in 7th or 8th gear at around 40 -45 mph. Granted, it happens when I am easy on the throttle but then whey I want to stomp on it it has a lot of downshifting to do. Has anyone else noticed this?

Same here. It tries to get to 7th and 8th gear pretty quick for fuel economy. If I want to start getting on the car, I manually move the shifter over down to 3rd or 4th gear and leave it or hold the paddle down to go right to a much lower gear.

When I'm driving I almost always have it in manual mode unless I'm just going through the city.

I actually tested how fast it downshift a from 8th to 4th and it's almost instantaneous. I would be in drive and then mash the pedal and hurry and switch over to manual mode to see what gear thr car was on. There was no delay for me.

That's good info. My wife has a 2015 Challenger and her display can be configured to always show the gear. I wish ours could do that. I like to know what gear I'm in.

Yes my wife has a 2016 grand cherokee and it also displays the gear she is in below the D indicator. Is the shifter ass backwards on the challenger too? Pushing the gear selector up downshift and down up shifts. It forces me to use paddle shifters or I will get confused.

Yep. Nice little indicator.

I hadn't noticed if it was backwards. She gets crazy when I start messing with her boyfriend. I'll have to check.

...unless it is in AFM mode, then it has to drop out of that and then down shift... I'm sure it does it instantly but... seems I have to drive really aggressive to keep it at the ready for spirited driving. Please don't misunderstand, the car is a blast. Regarding switching over to manual, I sometimes forget I am in manual mode and don't upshift when taking off from a stop light. Have bounced it off the rev limiter a couple times. Anyone else admit to this?

I will get up around 3k rpm sometimes, but never made it all the way to redline.

It is designed this on purpose. It is not designed to be aggressive all the time, I am glad it is like this. I like it nice and docile, until I get on it myself, either with the performance shift mode, or shifting myself via the paddles/shifter in manual mode.
