I agree. It is strange why a few almost talk trash about someone that chooses the auto. Maybe they're really planning to get the auto and trying to talk as many as they can into getting the manual so they can be faster. Lol! My dad always wanted a manual when I was a kid because they were faster than the old autos of the past, so based on that, the new muscle/sports car should be an auto, right?
I get why many would want a manual. My first 2 cars were a manual, as well as my 99 TA. I absolutely loved 2 of those cars, the TA and a 89 Ford Probe GT Turbo. But there were times when we would be cruising in heavy traffic that I wished I was driving an auto, because constantly pushing the clutch in wears you out after a while. When the first manually shift able autos came out, I liked the idea, but wasn't impressed with the few I had driven until I drove a 5th Gen Camaro with the paddle shifters. I could've and would've settled for one of those, especially the ZL1 version I tried out. I still wasn't crazy about the lag in the paddles though. Then when I saw and heard these crazy fast shifts that the A8 Vettes, Camaros, and Hellcats were doing, I really wanted to try one even more. But it turned out the paddles lag still wasn't any better. From the looks and sounds of these ride along videos in the new A10 ZL1, it seems they have finally perfected the American sports car auto! This has led my wife and I to finally pull the trigger and get another sports car. One we can all enjoy. My wife will be able to drive it like she did the 94 TA and hopefully the kids will fit in the back.

My next car will most likely be the 6G ZL1 and it most likely will be the A10. I'm 62 and I've rowed enough gears in my lifetime that I've found that while the manual transmission is a hell of a lot of fun and there is definitely truth to be said about a mysterious 'oneness' with the car when you have to move that shifter, I will buy the A10 just because when I am honest with myself I feel just as 'one' with an automatic as I do with the stick.

I had 4 Intercooled Grand Nationals over the years (a couple were built to run 11's) - everyone had an automatic of course. I've also had auto IROC Z's and Z/28s and I did not feel any less 'engaged' driving those autos than I do now driving this hairy chested Z/28 with the Tremec around town.

It's in the total DRIVE and the car itself and not just in the shift. At least for me anyways...

Good luck on the kids fitting in the back. That's why I got the camaro instead of the corvette. My 10 year old fits behind me, but I am a little cramped when he's back there. It can be done and I've done 2 hour drives like that, but its definitely a compromise. It doesn't help that I'm 6'2" 220 lbs. But if I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks! Sounds like I might be good then. I'm only 5'9" 170, my wife 5'6" 130, and our kids are 8 and 10.

The faster the car, the more difficult it is to get good times with a manual. Manual cars tend to have a lot more driveline issues too, but if wheel hop isn't an issue it's probably not worth factoring in.

I like both, but I have beat a lot of cars on the street I shouldn't have simply because they were manual.

The pull towards a 1le is strong for me though...no option there.

How does the A10 jump down multiple gears in paddle shift mode? Or can it only do that in full auto?

And from a moderate roll an M6 and A10 should be near identical. The less shifts the more the M6 gets the tiny edge.

Paddles the A6 and A8 can deny downshifts and in some instances upshifts. If you downshift to aggressive, it can lock you from doing it. In D its another ball game. 6th to 4th in an A6 is not uncommon when you whack it.

If I remember right, if you hold the down (-) paddle it will shift to the lowest allowable gear for your speed and of course the opposite if you hold the up (+) paddle. The computer will not let you over rev or bog the engine.

I didn’t have that car for very long, I got so friggin bored driving it.
I see many posts here that guys are waiting for the A10, I just don’t really understand that.

I understand that some people live in big cities and traffic is a horror show, I also understand some people have bad legs, of course you opt for the A10.

I watch all the videos of guys at the drag strip, I must admit, once I see the car is an auto I click it off.

I know the auto is FASTER, but my god, you watch the M6 guys go fast and it’s a thrill to me.

What happened to the driver EXPERIENCE? Your senses? The sounds the shifting? That’s all part of the driver experience.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, Anyone could put their foot to the floor and go!

Maybe I’m just a dinosaur……
Have you not watched the video of the hot lap at the Nurburgring? That video is all you need to know about why so many are waiting on the auto for the ZL1. The car is in full auto mode (in D, no paddle shifting or anything)!!

Of course I saw the video, that's why I made the post. Follow your lines and apex's and go, YES the car is faster, I GET IT. But for me the old ZL1 with a stick was a more enjoyable video. But I will definitely take a ride in a A10 before I decide in the next year or 2.

Another 50 year old stick driver. I'm very interested to see the track times of the 10-speed auto, but will have a hard time leaving a manual.

The autos are tough to beat on the strip, but the respect you get putting it down with the manual is huge. Whether it is spoken or not, racers know how difficult it is.

I think this Auto will change a lot of the hardcore 6M minds though. Great stuff for all of us.

Agree 100%! It's very difficult to launch a high horse car and then nail every shift to lay down a good time! Very rewarding and respectful for sure. Having said that, I will be going with the auto, because those lightning fast shifts just sound wicked, and the paddle response looks and sounds to be nearly instant, so it should be a lot of fun too. My wife plays a small part in it as well, as she can't (Won't) drive a manual, and she helps pay the bills.

I hear those excuses often. Just takes seat time and practice. You can be very competitive in a manual 5th gen ZL1 that is setup properly. I'm sure the 6th Gen ZL1 will be the same, only faster.

The driving experience on the street in a true muscle car can never be replaced with an Auto. DD in congested environments definitely goes to the Auto.

If I had an opportunity to buy this new ZL1, it would be an Auto. I would have to keep this 5th Gen, which makes no sense. But I am considering it
