Possible new owner Q's
Hey all,
I am considering picking up a new or slightly used SS next spring or summer. I thought for sure I was going to get a new Mustang GT but after driving both, the Mustang left me kind of underwhelmed with the interior and driving experience. I looked around, but are there any common issues with the SS and it's options. I am thinking I would like to add the dual mode exhaust and the mag ride, but I am concerned about longevity and repair costs in the long run on those two options. Any current issues or future concerns with those? The exhaust and the mag ride would be about the only options I would want. 6M no sunroof. |

The Mag Ride has been around a while and is well proven. The NPP exhaust has rattle issues in a few but it is fixable. Both are excellent options and will really improve your enjoyment of the SS.

Like you I'm leaning towards picking up an SS in about a year to try something different. I currently drive a 2015 GT, but it's a lease and I'm not a brand fanboy. I'm slightly concerned with all of the QC issues I've been reading about on here lately. Body panels with mismatched paint or not painted at all, whistling side mirrors, tachometer display just going black at random, touchscreen randomly changing languages, rattling exhaust, parasitic power loss/dead battery cells, rear differential groan, and misaligned body panels. That's all on the first two pages. My GT had the "GT base brake squeal" that Ford fixed by changing the pads during one of my oil changes, but that's the only issue I've had this far. I'm really interested in owning an SS, but not if I'm going to be regularly fighting with my local dealership for QC issues that should've never made it to a dealership.

However, its a first gen model so its bound to happen. The only issue I have experienced is the rear end groan. With that said, to answer the OP's concerns, I don't have MRC but I do have NPP. I've had no issues or rattles and its well worth it. It's a great option. I only wish I had gotten MRC..

I know I have seen quite a bit of the things you listed. I am just hoping these issues get ironed out by the time I get ready to guy. |

Had my 2SS for about a month. No problems, No complaints other than the brake dust. Ditto on it being too fast.

While I am concerned about the issues, it is the first year of a new model and I’m confident GM will straighten them out. And even if they don't I'm hoping my Dad (a finance manager at a Chevy dealership near Indy) and my brother (who works in the detail department) can help improve my odds. Or at least make my dealership experience better than some of the other folks on here when trying to have issues resolved. |

I was concerned about the issues too which is why I waited for a 2017. I haven't had any of the issues but quite frankly I think sometimes people are looking for a problem.
I did recently find out my car wasn't equipped with a trunk light but that's it so far. If my NPP rattles I sure don't notice it and the mag ride is wonderful. I like being able to change it up.

I know these probably aren't the best commuters, which is what I would be using it for. My wife and I do not have kids, so it would mainly be just me in the car going to and from work. My commute for the last 5.5 years has been about 75 miles a day. I am just wanting to make sure my next purchase will hold up to this commute, but some of these little problems that pop up have me concerned. I know the problems are probably few and far between, and only the gripes get brought up on the forums.
I had been commuting on a motorcycle almost year round, but that won't be an option for a little while, so I am wanting to get something fun to drive. |

Zero issues with mine. I bought off the lot last July.
These are very complicated machines, with a lot of opportunity for failure. I've been is Quality Assurance for 40+ years & have been very impressed with what Chevy has done. But my sample size is one, your experience may vary. People are more likely to post negative comments & are looking for solutions or recommendations. Not as many post just to say all is well. I don't commute (work from home). I wanted a fun to drive, torque monster, with all the latest bells & whistles. Couldn't justify the C7, it's just out of my reach financially. This car fits that for me, & lifetime mileage to date is 21 MPG. Not a lot of freeway driving for me, so I think that is outstanding for an M6 car with this level of torque, driven mainly in rural areas. Good luck with your decision. |
