Cool Front fender misalignment

I took my car to the dealer to get a minor item fixed that required the car to be put up on the lift. I got the car back at night - it was dark out. The next day I notice a misalignment the on the left front fender at the bottom where it meets the front door.
As I looked closer it looked as if the fender had slightly buckled.....humm...under pressure frm the lift ...?. I looked at the right side. It looked the same but not as severe. To me it appeared obvious that the car was not lined up to the lift forks correctly. However, there is no damage to the bottom side trim of the car.. took the car back to the dealer and although they are responding to fix the damage they were unable to tell me how this happend.

Has any one had similar issue?
Is it due to mechanic negligence?

I'm trying to understand what went wrong.

Tech not knowing where to place the lift pads. Probably went for the pinch weld. The rockers wrap over them on most new cars, therefore the lift pad pushed the rocker up before it hit the pinch weld.

The Gen 5 had specific points as well. If you flat pad or flip the short pad up and go for the pinch weld, you'd injure the rocker at the rear. You have to use the unibody/frame right behind the pinch weld instead.

It was essentially a "torque box" (as some reference it including GM) similar to the front ones on the cars (intended lifting point).

Lifting and Jacking a Gen 6 from GM:

Quote:
Note: The vehicle should be lifted so that the hoist pads and or lift arms do not contact the rocker panel molding. The hoist pad must be located in the designated area. In the front location, place the lift pads on the rocker outer panel weld flange. In the rear location, place the lift pads on the rocker outer panel rear cradle brace. Care should be taken to ensure the hoist pad is inside the rocker panel molding cut out area (notch) to prevent damage to the vehicle.

It would be nice to see a picture of a camaro properly sitting on a lift - worth a 1k words...
The lift points seem to differ from those indicated for a floor jack.
Thanks!

Excellent, thanks for your input IPODFAN11.
That's what I was looking for.
It's unfurtunate. Tech negligence.
Dealer is responsive but I lose my car for a week..

Another idea too would be to mark the correct lift points in a color. Simple, visual and easy to remember where to lift tha car! One would think the engineers at GM would get this concept.

Why would they do that? Everyone makes money when people make mistakes.

In addition to the fenders. The fiberglass panels under the car were also damaged.
The dealer is fixing the fenders and replacing both panels - left and right.

I will post some pics shortly.

If they could not manage to jack it up correctly, how on earth are they going to fix it correctly? That's a pretty hard job to do pulling the pinch weld down to drop it back down in place that's going to require some special techniques maybe frame shop but it will be way above their head

If they did not put the lift on the crossmembers for the suspension and simply tried to lift it with a driveup lift it rests on the rockers moldings and fenders.

We have to get yearly inspections in NY, I'm nervous now because they put it up on a lift to check things out
