Should I rust proof?
I was thinking about taking the Camaro to Krown to get it sprayed since i'll be driving it all winter but I keep getting conflicting reports from people about whether modern cars even need rustproofing anymore. Should I bother?

Myself. I would not. I personally think it is a waste.
My last vehicle was a 2010 F150 S/C 4×4. 6 years, 100,000km. Not a spec of rust anywhere. Frame, Suspension and body all fine.

I will be having mine rust checked as a DD that will be used during winter. I have used both Krown and Rust Check on vehicles and have a slight preference for rust check for the no drip underbody. Wheter it helps i can not say but i feel it can not hurt for the sake of the $150 per year.

Well, I'm going to be the voice of dissent regarding this.....
My wife's '12 Escape had major rust issues with the liftgate, as well as the rear wheel wells on both sides. And yes, I regularly washed it and handwashed/sprayed the wheel wells on all 4 corners, thru the winter. I was not impressed. I also had the "thick stuff" sprayed on my '12 GT as well. In my opinion, parking on a concrete floor/pad would lead to exposure to moisture. For my SS, yes, I took it to Krown. For the GTA guys, I went to the one on Centre Street in Richmond Hill. They really seem to know their stuff,. A week prior, I brought the car over, and the gent there (Ian) looked at my car and advised me of the "what/how" he would apply the coating. Also, they have a huge plate glass window to the shop floor, and you can see your car the entire time it's being worked on. My buddy scrape (also on this forum, whom owns a Challenger SRT 392) got his car done there as well. He is a detail fanatic, whom is driving his car year round. Just my $.02. Cheers.

On the advice of my good friend, who owns the dealership from which I purchased this car and others, I had mine sprayed by Krown (underbody only) and also an electronic module installed. Overkill maybe, but this is my "forever" car. He knows cars...he collects Trans Ams (4 or 5 of them).

Your good friend just wasted your money. Google these rust modules. Scam. Scam. They simply do not work.

My 2cents:
My 2010 Camaro was never rustproofed (6yrs), no rust, but then again it wasn't winter driven. However, my Cruze (daily driver year round) is now 4yrs old and it has never been rustproofed and has NO signs of rust anywhere. I wash it on a regular basis (especially in the winter, even just quick pressure wash and/or car wash to remove salt build up). The materials used in modern day cars are better treated with rust inhibitors which are more resistant to environmental chemicals. |

I drove my 2011 every winter and never had any problems with rust ( never rustproofed).
However I do put it through the car wash at least once a month to get the underside cleaned. |
