Curious depreciation scenarios? VS
So watching the 2ss really fall 20% kind of was shocking good for buyers but if you bought new early what a bummer!
what kind of depreciation would you expect on these three 1)new 1le...... in 3 years 2) new Zl1 in 3 years 3) 2017 Gt350 in 3 years Im guessing 30% for 1 and 2 with the shelby probably holding strong at 10 to 15% 2015 shelby are still practically sticker with miles. |

Id say a zl1 would proll hold around 20% really...but the ss...ehh seriously think it would be me more like 40% dending on refresh and stuff etc.. 3 years getting a 2ss in the 22 to 25 range sounds seriously reasonable... people are getting them for 34 or 35 new.

If you buy it as an investment.. rethink that logic.

Well, I don't think OP is saying anything about the car being an investment, or expecting any appreciation or a return on his purchase. It is still unfortunate that GM didn't have the volume of sales they were anticipating and heavily marking down their inventory, thus dropping the residual on early buyers' cars. I think most people are comfortable with the fact their brand new cars will lose value very quickly, but many of them still expect to buy/sell/trade in the future and don't necessarily want to take 100% of the depreciation by keeping the car for its full life.
It just sucks they brought our values down, but thats the nature of the sale and the risk early buyers take I suppose.

I think 40pct is a good benchmark. That's 60pct value in 3 years assuming 30-35K miles.
So a $40K car is going to be mid $20Ks. Seems about right to me. |

I checked kbb and that's where they are. Interesting.
I was talking about SS values - seems the base cars depreciate more. Makes sense. Plus with 25pct off new ones right now has to tank used 2016s. I don't believe that will happen every year or even Most years. |

Not an investment , Im just gonna be In ATL for three years and when I move I probably would go for something else.
lets say I bought a used zl1 5th gen for 38K how much is that gonna drop over three years> ? vs the 1le? I'm still kind of in love with that ZL1 despite not being as fast around the track I need four seats for these three years but after I move I probably wanna go back to the corvette as I love the T tops. The vette was to hard with wife and daughter but I probably want a zo6 or GS in three years good advice guys Im actually thinking a ZL1 with low miles 5th gen might be the best investment for the next three years? Will the new 1le and zl1 be 20 % off next year???? gulp. |

I think you are close. Remember, GM was quoting 36 month 54-58% residual values for their leases.

In my opinion, if you plan on trading frequently, and you are concerned about depreciation, buy used. There are a lot of 5 year old cars out there with 50,000 or less miles on them. I bought my car with the idea of keeping it at least 10 years if not 20. So I bought new.

Used ZL1 will likely see less depreciation over the next 3 years vs a new SS if you find the right car you like.
