The package included is the same as on the ZL1 and from chevy's site on the 1SS 1LE:

- Track-cooling package, with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers

Mod vs buy a ready built car? The eternal question... but there are many more you need to consider. Such as...

Are you actually going to track the car? Does resale matter to you? If you mod your SS and go to trade/sell it, will these mods add any value or can you sell them once removed from the SS? Can you do the mods yourself or do you have to pay someone or a shop to install them for you?

Pros for modding are as you mentioned - you can usually mod a car for somewhat less and you can definitely personalize it. However, there are often one-off items on the ready built model like the 1LE that are very expensive.

Mods DO make a car more personal and fit the owner's taste. But - not everyone feels the same as you do if they are shopping for a used SS. So, if you are looking to keep the SS, I would seriously consider modding it if you can do the mods yourself. Trading for a new car is expensive but if you could find a 1 or 2 year old 1LE (at some point), that might be a better route financially IF you want to wait.

Only you really know the answer to this question. Does the idea of the new 1LE make you excited? Or, do you really like your SS and want to turn a lot of wrenches and save money?

It comes down to you. Good luck!

This. There is E-diff and E-LSD. The two are completely different. Even a VW Jetta has an E-diff.

SS 1LE I assume. It's simple. If tracking is the main reason you are buying this car get the 1LE. The standard SS as it sits is as fast on a track as the 5th gen 1LE and handles just as well, just the tires are not as trackable as the ones on either 1LE.

So if you just will do an occasional track day or none, get the M6 SS and save $$. You will not miss the 1LE. The stock SS is a great handing car. Chevy made all the SSes awesome. Both have the same cooling. If you are not a track rat the SS brakes and diff are both fine. The only advantage of the 1LE brakes is not stopping power, but slightly better feel and less fading as the brakes get hotter.

Someone who knows how to drive in an SS will be able to run and hide from a lesser driver in a 1LE.

Nope, sorry. Been there done that. The 1LE is just another SS and this case a 1SS. So maybe a little better than a 1SS. If you want a car to hold its value buy a Ferrari or a rare Ford.

I am just modding since I have a 2SS and REALLY wanted the extras you get with it.

Plus, I do track but nowhere near enough to make losing the amenities worth it.

The SS 1LE cooling package is 100% identical to the standard SS according to a cooling system engineer at the Camaro Fifty event. I examined both closely at this event and the info seems to be accurate. All SS models (except convertibles) come with the large/center coolant radiator + two outboard smaller coolant radiators, trans cooler in front that sits horizontally, engine oil cooler, and diff oil cooler. I suspect the reason they marketed the "Track-cooling package, with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers" on the SS 1LE is because most people do not realize the base model SS comes with all that stuff

The SS 1LE and ZL1 cooling package are NOT the same. See this post for info on the ZL1 cooling package: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showpo...13&postcount=6

For one, there's an intercooler in front of the main radiator / AC condenser. The driver's side aux radiator on the ZL1 is an aux intercooler. The last difference appears to be the ZL1 coming with an in tank trans cooler (in addition to the SS style trans cooler out front that sits horizontally).

I'm curious is the 1LE engine coolant cooling package is even better than the ZL1 since it comes with the extra aux cooler (that's not being used for an aux intercooler on the 1LE). It is possible the main radiator capacity changed though.

No you buy a Wrangler lol. So you're saying you went out bought a 1LE from Becky and sold it for a loss? Damn man, that's some fast ownership turn-around!

I knew a guy who was campaigning a Firebird in autocross. Both he and the car were good, ultimately winning a National Championship. He told me that he had more than $20,000 in parts sitting in the garage that they had tried and didn't make the car any faster.

Trying to improve a car with bolt ons is not always a straightforward proposition.

Ah yes very big difference. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like similar technology to the E lockers in the trucks.
If done right that could be pretty good on the track.
I raced a NASA CMC series 3rd gen Camaro with a welded rear end. That car hooked on the corners. Felt kinda weird at times but it was very effective.
Took a modified driving technique that involved lots more throttle than you normally expect in mid turn. Of course that was a way lower power motor than a LT1. I would love to drive one on track !
