Given 1LE's werent available when I bought my car - and I wasnt sure if I was really going to track it, anyway - I'm modding my 2ss.

Some stuff you can add to the 1SS, others not so much. Plus also consider the cost of what you want to add to a 1SS to make it more like a 1LE and compare that to what the 1LE option costs and you might find it's better off to just get the 1LE. Items like the eLSD, extra cooling parts, short throw shifter, heads up display and the like might prove hard to replicate.

I agree with what you said, but there's no extra cooling on the 1SS 1LE. It's the exact same cooling package.

Could be perhaps, but according to the Chevy it lists the 1LE as having a "Track-cooling package, with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers" which makes it sound exclusive to the 1LE, whether it is or isn't.

Just get the 1LE if you're already planning to mod the SS to match. If you already had the SS it would make sense to mod instead, but starting from scratch the 1LE from the get go makes the most sense.

Yes, but for many modding is what these cars are all about. The E-LSD would be the deciding factor if you track and every tenth matters.

If you are buying now, go with 1LE. For those of us who have SS already, it makes sense to add parts to make it close to 1LE, but if you are buying new and especially when you are considering 1SS, I would say go with 1LE.

SS has a lsd diff. I'm not so sure an E-lsd would be better. It's not on bmws but I don't know the details of the Chevy implementation

The one on the 1LE (and ATS-V & Stingray..) is a mechanical limited slip differential that's electronically controlled - this is what you want!. I think the BMW one you are thinking of that performs terribly is an open diff which utilizes the rear brakes (one side at a time) in an effort to mimic a LSD. Read some road test articles on the Stingray and ATS-V.. I've seen nothing but praise for the *real* eLSD.

1LE is full of all the track goodies, and has a warranty to boot from GM.

I agree;

You'll probably spend more on modding your SS than just buying the 1LE now with everything you would make your SS into.

Will say though I am very happy with how raw my 1SS; giving me the opportunity to add small mods that make big differences and keepign the car fresh.

When you have the option from the factory that you want, buy it instead of trying to slap parts on another car to make it the same. I've tried before and I always end up a little bit disappointed.
