Bye Bye Hellcat

Hi guys, just joined the forum after trading in my 2015 Challenger Hellcat M6 on a 2016 Callaway Camaro 1SS A8. I've always been a GM guy and traded in a 2004 Corvette Z06 for the Hellcat. At the time I thought I wanted out of the small sports car and in a bigger more luxurious car with big power, but after owning the Hellcat for 1 year 4 months and 7522 miles i got rid of it.

My buddy here LS6Larry and I switched cars while on a cruise a few weeks ago and I could instantly tell how much better the SS drove. Then I was actually looking for a C7 when the Callaway popped up on a side ad. Well the price with the Callaway package was under the MSRP of the stock car so we made the 5 hour drive to Philadelphia and I bought it Saturday. I never thought I would own a yellow car, but the deal was too good to pass up. Didn't really want to give up the manual yet either, but these damn autos are getting too good.

I have creeped around over here before and you guys might be a little too hard and quick to judge the Hellcat on some aspects, but I traded mine in and I'm here so it's obvious I prefer the Camaro.

I don't see why not, the Hellcat has 3 holes in its hood and it got caught in a few rain storms. I mean I'd prefer not to and the engine bay will probably get more dirty in the rain, but I don't see why it can't be driven.

The Camaro is a world class sports car and the Callaway package has the power to make you forget about the Hellcat. Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the board.

Awesome OP, welcome back to the dark side!! You can always wrap the car if the yellow is too much for you. Hope you enjoy it more then the Hellcat .

Although the camaro is a much better handling car. I would much rather have the hellcat.

Not a big fan of the hood on that SS.

Welcome.

CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Welcome! You got that for the MSRP of an SS? I'd even take it in Baby Puke Green with Bright Pink Rally Stripes for that :P Seeing that I'm sure dealers will be marking up the ZL1.

Curious on why you got rid of the Hellcat. I've been Manual-guy myself most of my life, but the Autos are getting pretty damn good. I feel like I almost like manuals for the nostalgia, but nostalgia runs thin being stuck in traffic :P

I was already considering wrapping. Anybody know any rough cost numbers on a solid color wrap? I was thinking matte gray.

Not sure how you can't like the hood? What's cooler than a supercharger sticking right out of your hood? If your driving was the same as mine and you had the problems with the Hellcat that I did, i think you would change your mind.

The 20% Chevy Bonus tag was applied on this car, along with some other great incentives. I get more enjoyment out of my car on the road course and while I have embarrassed a brand new C7 Z06 (as well as many other cars that should beat the Fat Cat) on the track with the Hellcat, I feel I could beat that guy into submission with the Callaway. (Clearly I was a way better driver, a C7 Z06 would have been my first choice if money weren't an object) I would also like to get back into autocross events and I felt that the Hellcat was just waaaaayyyy too big for that. The SS feels like a go kart compared to the Hellcat.

Also I had a few major mechanical issues with the Hellcat. The biggest was fighting with Dodge and SRT to replace a faulty rear diff. The thing would just do one tire fires everywhere unless the car was going absolutely straight. 707 hp and the thing couldn't even drift or spin a donut. It also had a very nasty rear end wobble when under power and hitting any sort of bump in the road. It would keep oscillating side to side in increasing magnitude until you completely got out of the throttle.

As far as the auto thing... I definitely would have purchased the car even faster if it was a manual, but with the autos being faster and so good now I decided with this deal that I couldn't hold out any longer.

Wow! That's freggin awful! I've never personally owned anything Mopar (though Ford has their own fair share of problems) I always felt their build quality wasn't up to par. My coworker had a beautiful Challenger 392 and he would always need to bring the car to the dealer because the body would shift due to the torque and made it difficult to open and close his door.

I'm with you on the yellow, it is very polarizing. However, my belief:

"Bright Yellow on a Dodge Neon Expresso trim? NO! Bright Yellow on a 600+hp sports car? F--- YES!"

Nice car btw

I guess I am more partial to clean lines. Supercharger sticking out, seems a little to showy for me. I also find the Hellcats more muscular/aggressive looking than a newer SS.

I understand about the mechanical issues though, that will turn anyone away.

More power to you, sounds like you will be enjoying it, which is the point of your trade.

I was never really a fan of the old school muscle look of the Challenger either. I solely bought it for the hp/$ ratio really and after 7500 miles I'm happy to be out of it. At least I can say I have owned one.

I prefer the sportier and more modern design of the Camaro.
