SS to RS Decklid swap with pictures!
So as most of you already know, the GM factory Blade Spoiler is not something you can install on an SS model without doing some body work. The only way to install one without drilling or filling holes is to install one on a LT with RS package.
If you want the Blade Spoiler but don't want to spend a decent amount of money having a body shop install it, then this guide is for you. Thanks to Mike for being willing to swap lids! 1. Pull off the wiring harness cover on the underside of the trunk lid. This will expose the wiring harness you need to unplug. Put your hands under the cover and give firm tugs to the tabs so they pop out. ![]() 2. Once the cover is off you can start pulling at the plugs that keep the wiring harness from moving around. These are a pain in the ass, you can use needle nose pliers to help get them out. Don't worry about damaging them they seem to be indestructible I wasn't able to get a picture with all of them but you'll see all the ones that need to be pulled out. The wiring harness will drop down and away into the trunk.![]() 3. Next is the hatch release power plug. Grab needle nose pliers and apply pressure to pull it out. You might need a skinny screwdriver to push the latch in a little. ![]() 4. Next is the power plug for the 3rd brake light. This one is slightly more difficult to remove due to limited space. Again, use needle nose pliers and grab at it. There is a small latch on the passenger side you will need to apply pressure to before it slides out. ![]() 5. Last step is to remove the nut and washer holding the decklid onto the damper hinges. Relatively straightforward, it is 2 nut and washers on each side. Remove the top nuts with a 10mm ratcheting socket, and the bottom ones with a 10mm wrench. Once all 4 are off, the decklid will come off very easily. Just make sure you lay some towels on the rear window so if it falls it doesn't cause damage. ![]() Here is a picture after removing the decklid: ![]() And finally, the finished product! ![]() And now with the Blade spoiler installed! ![]() Feel free to ask any questions! If you can do your own oil change you can do this with ease. I would rate it a 4/10 difficulty for anyone with basic tools and basic mechanical know-how.

Can the 1le blade spoiler be installed on the LT decklid without any drilling?

Yes, but getting a little RS spoiler off is a bitch with the tape and the bolts......holes match up perfectly..... Here is the thread where we go through all the different variations from earlier in the year… http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=437453

Very cool, Ian, exactly what I want to do, just need someone wanting to trade an RS for an SS, in Hyper Blue too :-) So is the lid you swapped for the stock RS spoiler?

Nice, I think I'd be happy with the stock RS spoiler, the ass is already muscular enough for me. . .

Blade spoiler installed!
This was a huge pain in the ass to get all the tape off. Spent 2 hours scraping and rubbing it off with my fingers. The bolts were cake, and for the clips I tapped on them with a screwdriver and a mallet and they broke instantly. I probably had the RS wing off in 15 minutes.

Very cool Ian, looks great
That blade spoiler doesn't look as ridiculously large as several I've seen. I may need to ply you with beers or whatever your pleasure if the offer of the CAGS install is still out there. . .
