Why is gm not selling to rental agencies? The reason I am back in a Camaro 20yrs later is because of a Camaro upgrade in 2013 in the Fla keys. Once I drove it, I was hooked. I think they are losing out on potential new customers.

They are, I've seen Gen 6 rentals. They are just reducing.

Fleet can mean more than rentals too, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in on that.

October was 20% rental sales for the Mustang while Camaro...doesn't show any. Camaro says 6% rental sales for 2016 which was all first quarter. Come to think of it I haven't seen a 6th gen at a rental lot.
That looks like a pretty thorough review of fleet sales information for the Mustang and Camaro.

Please provide a pointer to your information source.

For the year it is a drubbing. Mustang has sold 50% more. GM really messed up on pricing. I'm not sure why the guessed they could raise msrps so much.
And I gotta say the car needs an airier cabin. Drove one two weeks ago through the some mountains in NC and I couldn't see a whole lot of the view.

I couldn't care less how big bonuses are or how much wall street makes. Build cars and sell them and keep people working. As long as they aren't being sold at a loss its good.
Fleet sales aren't all bad. It's the rental sales that have little to no profit and typically where automakers dump cars that aren't selling well or have outlived their competitive lifespan, IE most of the final Pontiac lineup and the W-body Impala. If GM is going to invest the time/money/resources to build a car, why go after a low-profit rental fleet sale when you could make more money on a retail delivery? It's basic economics.

And if you honestly don't see how GM making money is good for all of us, even non-shareholders, I'm not sure what to tell you. No profit= no GM = no Camaro = no jobs for those Americans you talked about. Simple as that.

Funny how quickly people forget the events of 2009...

Low profit. Retail sales are better for their bottom line, and the strategy is paying off. If Ford wants to play in the bottom of the profit barrel for Mustang sales volume, let them.

It can mean corporate and government fleet sales too, and those aren't as bad.

Ah, its not a big deal unless it results in a discontinuation, in which I doubt will happen, Honestly like being in the Marines, I Feel like the less who buy into a Camaro the fewer there will be making my car more unique and rarer.

That car is hideous, with a pos interior. Was it quick? Sure, but who would be caught driving one? GM had no real plans after that gen also.

Actually they did. It just wasn't supported within the company due to the low sales of the last few years of Gen4. Turned out to be a nice sedan though.

After producing the gen4 for 10 model year, the plant was closed after 2002 and then torn down. The capacity wasn't used for something more profitable

You were there so you know the story better than anyone. Seemed to me, that era of GM lacked resources and hung its fortunes on building trucks and SUV's.

I recall you mentioned being in the room when the canceled car was under evaluation.

I didn't witness any decisions, but I did see packaging drawings on the wall of the next gen "F" body. And on the other wall was a cool Cadillac sedan that could also be made off of the architecture. Turned out to be the first CTS.

I'm willing to bet we'll see a bump in Mustang sales when the 2018 models arrive.

I'm not a Camaro hater.
Actually really like the Camaro as well as the Mustang.

Just trying to keep the number analysis in check. Don't forget a couple months ago Ford was selling ~ 10,000 units a month. Camaro has yet to see these numbers for the Gen6.
It might prevent a small percentage of diehard enthusiasts that actively search out every tiny piece of news from buying one at the moment. But even most of the enthusiasts will still buy one now instead of waiting & seeing, and enthusiasts are a small portion of the overall market. The average buyer has absolutely no clue about what might be coming 7 or 8 months from now.

Al O. mentions somewhere in the vid that...."Turbo 4 sales have caught up to V-6 sales..."

...It's too bad with all these sales numbers we can't get a breakdown of all the models, how many went to rentals, (and what models they were), what the make and models were of retail, for all Mustangs and Challengers, not just Camaro.....

The info seems to be there, somebody has to have it....Why it's a secret or not made known, just adds to the confusion and arguing over these monthly sales figures...

A model breakdown is coming....rental vs retail, I'm not sure...
