2018 Mustang refresh is getting very close. Rumored Direct Injection/Port Injection technology will give the 5.0L a power bump. This could be holding back some sales.

The S550 Mustang has been on sale since 2014...the market is getting a bit saturated. Most that really wanted an S550 already have one.

I'm willing to bet we'll see a bump in Mustang sales when the 2018 models arrive.

I'm not a Camaro hater.
Actually really like the Camaro as well as the Mustang.

Just trying to keep the number analysis in check. Don't forget a couple months ago Ford was selling ~ 10,000 units a month. Camaro has yet to see these numbers for the Gen6.

But we never get the all the data:
what % of the sales are I4, V6, V8
what % of the sales are fleet
what % of the sales are exports
what % of the buyers have a mullet

anyway, I kinda think the whole thing is silly in terms of it being any kind of barometer of how good the Camaro is vs. Mustang vs. oh crap what's that other one...(?), I mean we already know the answer to that.

Totally agree.

We need both the Camaro and Mustang to be healthy. Okay and even "the other American/Italian Muscle product (owned by Fiat)".

Competition pushes GM and Ford respectively to spend the money to develop better Camaro and Mustang products, which we then get to enjoy.

Cheers.

In check? Let's deduct how many Camaros and Mustangs end up at hertz rental car and the like.

GM doesn't make the Camaro RHD, so Europe sales are irrelevant.

I think Ford is realizing that the "sell as many as possible at whatever cost" is a bad strategy. Perhaps they will dial back the fleet sales and focus on ATPs

It's all over for the Camaro. Mustang blows away Camaro in Europe. Oh well, it was a good run.

And here...we appear to see what happens when Mustang isn't buffering their sales figures with fleet for more than half the year...

Huh? Why are Europe sales irrelevant? Are you saying only the British drive sales in Europe? Of the 30 something countries in Europe only one needs RHD, England. The rest drive the normal way.

My opinion is the same as others money certainly talks. While I amazed with the looks and performance of the camaro the MSRP for what I wanted just wasn't in the cards at the moment. When the 20 percent tag came out it was in my budget so I was able to get one. Talking to coworkers asking about my car 3 others ended up searching for the same tags. So there's four new buyers to the brand that otherwise might not have been. This is in my small circle. All of the other camaros park near us so it's a camaro gang in the parking lot. Lol

It's really baffling to me why everyone is so down on fleet sales.A sale is a sale. It's a car that the company built and sold at profit. Is it as much profit? Who cares. American workers are working and building cars. You guys are really that concerned about corporate profits being higher? DO you own stock in GM or something? I couldn't care less how big bonuses are or how much wall street makes. Build cars and sell them and keep people working. As long as they aren't being sold at a loss its good.

I do own stock in GM, but that's not what I perceive as the reason these sales threads are so...controversial / hot topic. What I have perceived reading these threads is that because sales are lower for Camaro that it somehow means the Camaro is not as "cool" or is the lesser car.

I totally agree with your point about keeping what's left of our manufacturing industry alive, and so with respect to that point, yes a sale is a sale. And Kudos to Chevy for bringing production of the Camaro back.

When the Camaro was re-released in 2009, it outsold the Mustang every year until around 2014 or 2015 (can't remember). Not by a ton, but it did outsell it. No Mustang fan really cared about sales numbers, it wasn't really that hot of a topic. When the new Mustang came out the sales skyrocketed, and the Ford guy claim is the car is just that good, so when the new Camaro came out and cleaned its clock in every performance metric, they held firm to the "but the Mustang is still better, look at the sales numbers"

The irony is that the sales numbers are high because it's not only cheaper, but rental agencies are buying them by the truck load (see, cheap price). I went to the Florida Keys this spring and one out of every 10 cars I saw on the road was a Mustang rental car (most convertible). Being a top rental car is not exactly something worth bragging about. That's where the Chrysler cars end up too...
