I hear it more often now that weather is colder. It used to go away by the time I get out of my hood but now I'm hearing further down the road. It does go away but...
I'm glad I've atleast got my complaint on the record with the dealer.

Just got mine back from the dealer they serviced the rear diff I asked for them too give me some of the fluid in a 6oz bottle I gave them. The fluid was dirty and does have some gold color to it. I'm going to call the dealer I got it from too see what they say.

Took mine in for 5k oil change, 1st one... and I had the same groaning from the rear, and I told the dealership service department about it, the technician said he had heard of this before and didn't even hesitate and changed out the rear end fluid without question... its been quiet ever since, hopefully it will stay that way... but at least the dealership has it on record in case of any problems down the road.

rear end noise

I bought my 1ss in July and started to notice a groaning noise when accelerating into a turn as the days got colder and the car approached 3000 miles. I live in Massachusetts so now that fall is here the noise is horrible. It goes away after it is driven for a few miles but is deafening if you are in the car. I brought it to the dealer 3 times before they had a clue what it was. They drained the rear diff fluid twice and told me to drive 500 miles before contacting them again. Well I just hit 500 miles and the noise is worse than before. Now it will have to go back for the fourth time for service. I am beyond frustrated that a vehicle I spent a lot of money on has spent a considerable amount of time in the shop in the short time I have owned it. At least this forum gives me comfort knowing I am not alone as the dealer thought I was crazy until the third time when they heard the noise. The vehicle also drives horribly when it is cold; the wheel pulls a lot.

Well at least your dealer acknowledged it. Mine claimed they didn't notice anything and they had my car 3 days. The groan is so loud that it is impossible to not notice it. It does go away after driving for a while but I'm just not sure the rear is even performing correctly. It seems too tight in turns and I think that will cause problems when the road is slick. There are way too many people with this problem for GM to just ignore it.

noise

It took them 3 times to hear the noise and now they will have it a fourth time. My concern, besides the horrific noise, is that the care doesn't drive right. When the noise occurs during the cold morning the car is so tight with steering and it feels like it is grabbing the wheel and pulling it to the side. I am at the point that I am talking to my dealer about them buying it back; long shot I know. Chevy needs a fix and just changing the fluid isn't working. After the first attempt to change the fluid it made the car and noise a lot worse. My dealer thinks that they will come up with a replacement part of something by spring.

I want to share my experience on this subject as I also have the described growl or rubbing sound described in this thread. I heard it shortly after I purchased my 2SS and didn't think much about it as I realize mechanical systems sound different as they cool. I would describe my growl as mild but it happened every cool day upon first start when turning. As I read through all the posts , panic set it as I read about differential replacements , metal in the oil and the sound returning after draining and refilling. If anything I wanted to drain the oil and check for damage and then refill. I read post after post about people draining and refilling with the recommended AC Delco and the noise went away (rarely) or the noise went away and then returned (most common). I didn't want to drain and refill with the exact fluid that was supposedly causing the issue to begin with so I purchased a high end gear oil that meets or exceeds GM specs and at least try something new as I have not read much about people trying a different brand of fluid. I drained my original fluid (after a long drive) and it looked normal. No metal , no burnt smell. I refilled using the name brand fluid and proceeded to do figure 8's for several minutes. At this point the fluid was already warm so I couldn't make a decision on if it made a difference yet. It's been 4 days and mornings into the high 30's and I have not experienced any noises what so ever. Before it would make noise every single time. Maybe the noise will return. I don't know. I am posting this not to start a gear oil debate (that's why I left out the name of the brand) but to share my experience on this topic. To each his own but I am happy with my findings.

me too!

I started hearing the noise coming from the rearend a few weeks ago as the weather was getting cooler. It would happen the first thing in the morning after sitting all night. It sounds like a bearing, growl or rubbing noise and happens with a slow left turn while going around my cul-de-sac. The dealership was unable to duplicate it and returned the car to me. I saw this thread and read everything here, called the dealer last week and mentioned it. He took some notes, and was going to check into it. I was surprised today when they called and wanted me to bring it in so they can change the rearend fluid. I'll update everyone on the results in a few days. Thanks to everyone for their contribution.

Hey wrankin,

We regret to learn of this noise concern on your new Camaro and understand how displeasing it may be while driving. However, it sounds like you’re in good hands at your dealership! If we can provide another layer of support with them, don’t hesitate in sending us a private message. We’re always glad to help.

Let us know if it solves the problem, maybe the new formula that has the anti friction additive in it is not doing the job

I'll follow up but ive put in new diffs before and a lot of times these pre mixed oils don't have enough modifier and u have to keep adding a little bit at a time until the chatter goes away. Just don't over do it
The Easton unit in the regular SS isn't any different than ones I've had before. Seeing how upset some of u are it might be worth buying the bottle for $10.

I'm gonna get fresh oil put in by the dealer first but it prob won't fix it, so I'll follow up in a week or two
