All other considerations aside, I'd put Red Line 15W50 in for the event, and then put your normal oil back in afterwards.

My question is, what are the long term effects, if any, of running the heavier oil constantly? I live in the south and can just about run an autocross each weekend, and I can hit a road course once a month if I want to make a drive.
Normal oil and track oil changes every couple weeks would be fiscally idiotic.

Another question, should/can you DIY this change and still be covered should you have a failure? Isn't it likely that a grenaded engine would make it a bit harder and possibly inconclusive to determine the oil in the car?
Should it be completed at the dealer with them making a note to some effect in the system showing that you in fact are running a suggested oil from the manual?

Take a look at a recent thread on another forum
The question about valid GM warranty is uncertain regardless of this link... https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub...pics/4224569/1

Has anyone tried to use one of their free oil changes for Dexos 2 at a dealer? Maybe that will work if you show them the manual.

Guys I spent a lot of time calling dealers in the DFW, going to every autoparts chain, and calling GM, castrol, mobile, and valvoline. I will not be using 15w50 and doing 2 10 qt oil changes every time i go to the track.
I found a dexos 2 certified 5w40 that you can buy at Napa Auto Parts. Valvoline Synpower MST 5w40 There are some packages of it that do not have the blue dexos 2 symbol and some that do, but after speaking with both GM and Valvoline about the matter, as long as it carries the product number (966 i believe) then it is dexos 2 certified. |

I was looking at 8100 X-cess on amazon, but the bottle doesn't show dexos2. 8100 X-clean shows dexos2 label, which is $56.38 on Amazon.
I'm going to try Autozone, Walmart, and NAPA today to see if I can find 5w-40 dexos2.

I don't know if this was posted before, but found this site that shows all the dexos2 oils. You can type in 5w-40 or 0w-40 to sort them. Thought this might be helpful for others it not posted previously. By the way, I went to Auto zone and the guy at the counter never heard of dexos2.

I'm approaching the 1500 miles in my Z and going to do the first oil change then, I talked to my local dealership about if they'd be able to put in the Dexos 2 that is recommend for track use and they said as of January, they switched to Dexos 2 as standard for all the performance car oil changes. So guess that's what mine would get anyways.
Couple questions on this though, I plan to do occasional autocross and some track days this year, is there any reason not to leave the track oil in the car regularly? Also, the manual states to charge the brake and diff fluid prior to hitting the track, does the brake fluid need to be changed back after a track day or can the higher temp stuff stay in for regular use? |

I'm running 0W40 / 5W40 all year round. You should not have any problems (in my opinion) especially in warmer Texas.
My Owners manual might be out of date, since it says to change rear diff fluid After your first track day.
