Tapshift Question

I know the computer don't let you downshift to a gear that is gonna harm the engine but when u the downshift is gonna put the gear in the lowest possible but isn't that bad ? Goin from 3 to 1 etc. I over rev the other day cuz I was goin at a speed that when I hold it it went to 1 and the rpm went up really fast. I didn't have that much time to change to gear 2.

If you hold the left paddle down for about 2 seconds the car will execute maximum downshift

Have any of the A8 guys noticed a weird drone when downshifting to a lower gear that brings the engine close to redline for a little while? Nothing to do with the exhaust. Feels and sounds like it is coming from the transmission area.

Why would it be bad if the computer allows you to do it?

Mine does it also. Seems to be most noticeable in 2nd gear

I like to do it coming to a stop sign or wherever from 25 to 30mph. Usually drops it from 4 to 1 and sounds so badass.

Hell yeah it does! With long tubes and high flow cats, it scares the hell out of anyone that doesn't see me coming. I'm very impressed with the trans in our cars!

Yes, and you can make it happen on demand when going slow and hold the downshift for the two seconds and then as soon as you see it show that it's downshifted, but before you feel it you tap it up one gear. It briefly drops it into first and the engine sounds mean through the NPP. The older Cobras don't hold a candlestick to it and I really like their tuned exhaust sound.
