Missed the convenience and lighting package
Hi, newbie here.. purchased my 2016 Camaro 2LT RS this Saturday. I've been waiting since they came out with a good deal and finally came across one with the 20% off rebate. I was sold on Kalahari interior - it was actually hard to find. Stupid I know - but Friday, bf found several cars in the same area 4 hours away so we went without me really looking into the car specs. Bf was tired of hearing me talk and search for a car, and I was fed up with my searching, notifications, dealers calling me nonstop. I jumped and purchased the car. I now realize I didn't get exactly what I wanted. Most of the cars I was looking at myself had all the same things since main requirements were built-in-nav, sunroof, bright silver 20" wheels, kalahari and either white or nightfall gray which meant the cars were pretty much loaded.
I'm a Grand Prix girl (GTP and GXP ), LOVED my HUD and have missed it. I noticed the car didn't have it but thought that was all that was missing - was not a deal killer. Didn't really think of anything else that was missing. So, no it was really the entire convenience and lighting package . Kind of disappointed now. Seat memory - really just me driving the car but would have been nice. Lane detection - I guess not really needed. Door sills - would have been nice - definitely feel like I need something lit up down there since doesn't even have the footwells lit. Door lights - how did I miss this? Lighting color change - I guess it's not needed. Just very disappointed in myself now. Jumped the gun after SO much searching for my perfect car. Anyways, anyone know if any of these upgrades are pretty easy or cheap to to do? Anyone know around how much the dealership may charge for any of these missing things? I see videos on installation of the door sills but anyone know how much a dealer may charge? |

First off congrats on getting your Camaro! Don't be disappointed, the things you are missing are little things. The door sills can be done cheaper at a independent shop like a stereo shop or have someone do it for you. Just have to prop it out and tap the wiring.
Instructions for the door sills (GM Part # 84127637): http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showth...=1#post9340068 The footwell lighting is not that bright but you can pick what color your doors, footwell, dash, cup holders etc light up but the door sills are the blue color regardless. Here's an alternative to the footwell lighting http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/l...well-kits.html Last edited by Richard0nee; 10-26-2016 at 01:03 AM. |

Thank you for both of those links! Awesome post on the door sills. Makes it look so easy. Do you have personal experience with the those footwell lights?

My friend has three footwell lighting on his 5th Gen Camaro and it's nice and bright! The ones from GM is very dim IMO. |

It sounds like you got a nice camaro=I wouldn't worry to muck about the lighting-I could never get my mind wrapped around the int. lighting thing'diff. colors changing etc. Whats up with that? The Disco era IS over!!

I set my color on blue to match the car and leave it there. So it is pretty useless to me.

I'm building an over-engineered alternative (in the how-to section). It's way more awesome.

For me, I really just wanted the backup sensors. Too bad you have to spend an extra $2000 for the convenience package, ON TOP of the $4000 for 2LT. So for me, it was 1LT RS because I didn't want to spend $6000 just to get the backup sensors. I know we have cameras, but I actually prefer having sensors over a camera. Weird, I know. (beep, beepbeep, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! : )
Conversely, Ford asks just $300 for Mustang backup sensors, on any trim level. Still love my Camaro, just wish Chevy's packaging choices weren't so dumb. Last edited by ny tdi; 10-27-2016 at 09:59 AM. |

It wouldn't be as robust as a factory rear sensor--field of sensitivity is narrower if only installing one. I suppose if reverse sensors are really an issue, you could always install three of them, right-center-left, and still come out ahead of the jump to 2LT. If you did install multiple ones though, it sure would be interesting to see first time passenger's reactions to all the chirps when you start the car. ![]() Back on topic: I started out looking at the 2LT with the lighting and convenience because I bought into the reviews that considered them "essential." I have a base model now and got used to driving it in less than an hour, no regrets. Enjoy the new ride, OP. |

Yeah I agree about the light color changing. I don't think I'd ever really want a green, purple, etc. but even set to white, the lights on the doors and cup holder and all seem nice to have. I drove one at night and I did like how the inside lighting looked but unless you've driven it before, I guess it doesn't really make a difference.
$2000 extra doesn't seem like too much more for the package. I was upset with myself, personally, because there was another car nearby - asking around $700 more with the package - but I really wanted the bright silver rims which is why I was reluctant to look at it. The rims seem to be selling at only $800 or so online. I was ok without sensors because I don't think I would trust it. I've never had them, but when do you know you're at the last BEEP before hitting? I'm actually used to driving mine now - I love it! Still wish I had the HUD because I used to drive with it all the time but I'll be fine I did go ahead and order the door sills and the Kalahari knee pads for now but definitely looking to do more.
