Fast forward to August, car still groaning when cold and now it has a squeak coming from the same area. Took it to a different dealership, went on a drive with a technician and we could not duplicate it but he wanted to keep it overnight to see what would happen the next morning. The same day, they got in the car to park it in a more secure place and they were able to duplicate it. They checked the rear diff and found metal in the oil which prompted a call to me saying they would need to replace the whole rear end. The car was at the dealership from Aug 1st to Sept 16th and they said it was fixed and I would not have any more issues.

Now on Oct 7th, I am taking my regular 36 mile drive home from work in rush hour traffic and the rear end made a boom sound, the backend hopped up like it had hit something and all I could do was coast to the side of the road. Dealership sends a wrecker and now I am am waiting for it to be fixed again. They have told me the rear end is shattered and will need to be replaced again. I really love my car but I have lost all faith in it getting fixed properly and will always wonder if something else has been damaged.

I have been following this post for quite a while and have learned a lot from your guys. What would you suggest?
Sounds like you have grounds to request GM to buy back the car under the lemon law.

Guys

EVERYONE! Have your dealer check the fluid! They have to check it if you ask. If you have the noise ask them to check it not replace it. If there is metal In the fluid its fried. If you tell them you have a noise then they can say they can't replicate it. If you just have them straight up "check" the fluid then you will know 100% whats going on. My two cents.

fyi my car is at the dealer having the rear end replaced now. :(

Has your dealer got hold of a replacement diff yet? My dealer tells me they are not available and no date for when they will be available.

I had my car at the dealer for same issue last week. I left the car at the dealer for couple of nights but they couldn't find anything wrong, so I asked the diff fluid to be flushed - I thought if this could fix the problem, it was relatively inexpensive way to be happy with this car again. That didn't fix the problem...

It only happens in the morning when everything is still cold, and only for couple of turns as I am pulling out of my driveway and out of my sub-division.

I had similar issue with Corvette, but at least that problem went away after flushing the diff.

I don't know what to do now.... Maybe I should go back to dealer again.

I have the same exact issue but are you/we sure it's the rear diff? Mine kind of sounds like it could be the parking brake being slow to fully release. Like you mentioned, it only happens to me in the morning for a few turns.

Damn...that's the same thing mine just started doing at 3300 miles. It went from only doing it turning left to doing it turning both ways in a matter of days. Guess it's time to take it in...

I do have the same issue and I have just over 6,000 on my 2SS. I talked with a service tech about it and they have encountered this issue before. The tech asked me an interesting question: "Do you DRIVE you car or just ride in it?". I told him that I get in it at times but not much. He said these cars a meant to DRIVE so if you drive it like you stole it, the friction material in the LSD will heat up and properly coat the diff and it will quiet down. I asked him could I hurt it by driving it hard with so few miles on the car and he replied, "No way". That's what it's made for. An interesting reply and conversation. So while it is still under warrantee, I'll start to drive it much harder and see what happens.l

i purchased my car back in december, once the spring came i drove the car like i stole it and i still have this rubbing issue. Actually even had the bolts to my axle almost come off. Ironically when a chevy mechanic tightened the bolts, the noise stopped. Unfortunately it came back after a cold start -_-

I hammered it from day 1 and noise appeared just over 3k miles

I have this issue and the car is at the service department as we speak - I can almost guarantee they will say "cannot duplicate"

Dealer could not duplicate for me but I got my complaint documented on the service ticket. I can live with it, only happens on the first hard left turn out my neighborhood.
