56 freeking hp! e85, cat delete, crimp delete, air box mod

sorry about that here is the info. run 1 is bone stock and the best numbers I got out of 3 runs. the other run is after the mods. this is e85, tuning, cat delete, crimp and afm valve delete, cut a small hole in the bottom on the air box.

the tuning was for the most part a file tsloper gave me(thanks again!). I copied over most of what he had but filled in my own maf table. I made 9 runs total and tried a little a variety off things. pushed the fuel to about 13.2/1 and then 13/1 and then 12.8/1 and I also tried a little more timing than tsloper tune but ended up pulling that back out. all that and all of my runs were between 437 and 441. it is very consistent now and it was not at all consistent stock.

there is a timing issue at about 6k where it is pulling about 10deg for a moment. I tried logging a pile of things and couldn't find what it was but it doesn't do it on the street and it was fading by the end of the night. oh yeah, all runs with the npp cut out open. at the end of the night I tried making a run in stealth but it opened on its own mid run which it does not do on the street. npp gets all confused on the dyno so I did the pull the fuse trick.

I am going to make another post to cover the air box info. there is a little gain there at least on the dyno for 0 money.

56 freeking hp!!!!!!

I removed a portion of my air box. part of the lower box that points toward the fender. to test before and after I put a folded up towel over the hole.

this is on the dyno with the hood open and a towel over the hole for the before vs no towel for the after so take it for what it is worth.

I also tried removing the air filter and saw 0 gain. I also tried it with the lid propped up several inches so no box at all leading into the maf and saw 0 gain with this also. no loss either but it was hunting around at idle so not real happy. both of these tests the a/f at wot stayed pretty close to what it was before.

I made 2 runs before and 5 runs after and there was a consistent 2hp and 5ft/lbs. the runs rounded to the nearest hole number were

438hp 452tq
437hp 451tq
440hp 456tq <<open from here down
441hp 456tq
441hp 458tq
440hp 457tq
441hp 458tq

I made other small changes the last 4 runs but they were having no effect.

Those are pretty dam great numbers. How much do you think was picked up by the cat delete. I wouldn't do that but might consider putting a high flow cat on at a later date. Did you drain your fuel tank or just run it out as far as you could and then add the e85? You should bring your C6 to superchevy at Gateway next weekend.

I ran it very low and added 85, then ran it low again and filled it up with e85.

The only other reference I have is tsloper. He got a 50 hp gain from stock with e85, primary cat delete, rotofab. He still has the 2nd cats and the crimped exhaust. Also worth mentioning is we are both on dynojets and are seeing the same peek hp, my car just showed 5hp less in stock form.

Maybe I can get his run and I can overlay the two. That might tell us something.

here is a nice comparison between my run and tslopers runs.

mine is the blue run. he has a rotofab intake and has not removed the 2nd cats or crimped area. also his runs were in 5th and mine in 6th so that alone might make a comparison worthless but I am going to just ignore that.

my a/f is not as lean as shown on this chart, my wideband is showing ~13/1. you can see I am a little down in the lower rpms and a little up in the higher rpms. it might be the less restrictive exhaust or it might be that he is starting to richen up a little up there.

what I find most interesting is how close the 2 graphs overlay. it looks like these giant gains from e85 and tuning can be repeated.

So the E85 tune on an otherwise stock car is good for about 30 at the wheels?

i would guess at least 30hp of the 56 I got were from e85 and tune.

Excellent confirmation of the E85 gains! I forgot you pulled all of the cats so I am guessing your bump at the top end is from that. That makes me want to get to headers very soon.

That dip you have in your graph at the upper end is likely torque management kicking in. I've seen it here and there. If you log all of the timing advance adders it should show under torque management.

Wish I could have done that before Super Chevy, man that along with my new drag pack might get some pretty good gains.
