My dealer is ordering me a new diff. There were metal shavings in the oil that they drained last week. They pulled the diff for inspection yesterday and I guess they didn't like what they found.

Well I hope the new diff solves your problem. Do you think it is just a defective batch of rear ends?

I haven't read this whole thread. I assume y'all are having the problem where you can hear it grinding sound when you turn?? Worse when cold. My car just started doing this and it seems to be getting worse...

I have no idea. My dealer says that GM are aware of the problem, although the remedy that GM recommends didn't fix the issue for me.
I'm surprised that the GM customer service rep hasn't made any comments on this thread yet, it seems like a growing issue.

Driving the car in a pattern of a number "8".....

A complete low speed hard left then a complete hard right... or vice versa....

It causes one rear wheel to turn more than the other replicating the issue people are having. Mine does it cold. I will have to take it in for a fliud change.

Literally at the dealership now.

Literally just brought the car in for an oil change been hearing noises from the rear on warm up. Literally was just told the rear is fried and it needs to be replaced. Bought the car in January it dosnt even have 6,000 miles on it. Really sad :(

For those with this issue, did you notice any warning signs or did it just start making noise one day?

Mine started making the noise as well. I have about 5,500 miles on my car. The only thing I'm concerned about is the dealership not being able to replicate the issue or them telling me it's normal. It seems to happen when the car is cold.

So back in May my car starting making a groaning sound out of the rear end when turning left and cold. Took it to the dealership and they could not duplicate the issue and did nothing to fix it.

Fast forward to August, car still groaning when cold and now it has a squeak coming from the same area. Took it to a different dealership, went on a drive with a technician and we could not duplicate it but he wanted to keep it overnight to see what would happen the next morning. The same day, they got in the car to park it in a more secure place and they were able to duplicate it. They checked the rear diff and found metal in the oil which prompted a call to me saying they would need to replace the whole rear end. The car was at the dealership from Aug 1st to Sept 16th and they said it was fixed and I would not have any more issues.

Now on Oct 7th, I am taking my regular 36 mile drive home from work in rush hour traffic and the rear end made a boom sound, the backend hopped up like it had hit something and all I could do was coast to the side of the road. Dealership sends a wrecker and now I am am waiting for it to be fixed again. They have told me the rear end is shattered and will need to be replaced again. I really love my car but I have lost all faith in it getting fixed properly and will always wonder if something else has been damaged.

I have been following this post for quite a while and have learned a lot from your guys. What would you suggest?

It took over a month to fix, then the replaced part broke??? FIND a NEW DEALER.
