Surfboard racks
Has anyone out there put surf racks on the 6th Gen camaro?
I'm considering either soft racks or something called the Sea Sucker rack.

If it goes on the roof my concern would be buckling/denting the roof. I don't know about your car but the foof panel on mine tends to what to move just when I'm waxing it and I have a sunroof. I've heard it's even worse if you don't have the sunroof.

I almost did it on the 11...my boards are only 6'4 though so instead I just stick them inside the car.

The 6th gen has a seamless roof. They use a new, patented welding method to essentially make the roof one with the car. Notice any plastic rails like on every other car? That's because there are no seams. I'd say there's no way to install any type of rack on this roof.

They are a bit of a tough fit on a camaro - you dont want to mount them in the center channel of the roof - as the metal is super thin and you're likely to damage the car. instead you want to mount the rack and your board on the outside "ridge". I have posted pics on seasuckers facebook page showing how to do this. The company's support is pretty iffy - they're only open east coast hours and they dont spend time learning all the vehicles. I have carried a 30 pound MTB on my rack and havent had a catastrophic failure - but I did have 1 rear suction cup come loose. I recomend doubling or trippling up - both front and rear for this reason. |

We use soft racks on our jeep and I'd use them on my camaro if I didn't have the jeep, Just go to a local surf shop or buy em online. but I'd worry about the paint. Maybe put a towel under it. It would definately work, but I'd worry about the paint.
Something like this is what I have....( not my car) http://www.camaro5.com/forums/attach...1&d=1329190709 |
