2017 RAPTOR

I can't bring myself to buy anything besides GM, but Ford has been making some fun toys as of late (Raptor, Focus ST, Focus RS, etc.)

I moderately liked the first gen Raptor, though it has its own issues.

But this 2nd gen.. F' the aluminum can that is the F150.

Aluminum does not hold up and is expensive to repair, and insurance companies know it.. which is why you have substantially higher rates for the F-150's
The twin turbo V6 is too little motor for that size of vehicle. Good luck with longevity.

F stands for Fail.

After they made commercials showing how weak the aluminum is on the F150... Kinda doubt that.

They'll move to aluminum in part, but I bet they shy away from the bed of the truck. They'll just be more aluminum panels in the next-gen truck. The Super Duty had to use thicker gauge aluminum.

I believe GM already has contracts in place with Alcoa to supply them with aluminum for their pick ups.

Thank you.

The trailer industry has been in aluminum for years. Good thing they don't get beat up on.

I own a '15 F-150, insurance costs me no more than my in-laws and their '16 Silverado.

For now.....

Your insurance premiums will likely change once repair data comes in bulk and is analyzed. Claims come in. Repairs cost more than steel counterparts. Rates go up. Not to mention comparing your rates to another driver isn't necessarily apples to apples.

FWIW a good chunk of people on the F150forum actually had their rates go down with the aluminum body F-150, others stayed the same and a few went up. I think the thought that rates would go way up was overblown

PSSSSST... don't tell anyone, but 16% of the construction of a F-22 Raptor uses aluminum alloy.

My insurance went down from my old '06 F-150 FX4 supercrew to my current '13 F-150 FX4 supercrew. As for longevity my 3.5EB is currently at 103k+ miles only maintenance needed this far beside regular oil changes has been new plugs at 100k.

When it comes to "repairs" most modern shops just do replacements. So as long as Ford has the parts available, then the repair costs are kept to a relative minimum, or at least on par with the old steel replacements.

You know that 10 speed is the same one going in the zl1, right?
