To inflate or not to inflate
Hi guys/girls I am brand new (as of today) to this Forum & I have a question...I bought a 2015 Camaro 2SS Flash edition with 21" low profile tires 245 front 275 back in March. Going to store it in our unheated garage in Michigan for the winter. I've gone on other sites & tried to find out what to do to avoid flatspotting. Some say over inflate some say under inflate but I read also that once flatspotting happens over a long period the tires never go back to round. Also that every few weeks I should just start it up & roll forward & back a few time, please help me clear this up.
I wish I knew how to post a pic of my car I lovingly refer to as the Beast but I don't see a camera icon but he's a beautiful emerald green color & a 426hp 6 speed. Thanks all. |

My dad used to put the Suburban up on jack stands when we weren't using it for a long time.

if it's not moving at all, I'd think the only way to avoid flat spots is to put it up on jack stands so the tires aren't touching the ground or just barely touching.
Rolling it forward and backwards will just have it on the same spot assuming you return the car to nearly the same position. You'd need to drive it so that the distances you are rotating the tires one way varies from the other way. that way the tires aren't likely in the same position when you park at the same spot in the garage. You'll also want to be concerned with using a battery tender and dealing with the fuel (especially if it has 10% ethanol as the alcohol in fuel will break down and get replaced with water after a few weeks - decreasing octane). Michigan probably has winter fuel though for avoiding the 10% ethanol. |

I don't know if I have run flat tires, I suppose it would say on the tires or inside the door & my husband doesn't want to take the tires off plus I also read putting the car on blocks or jack stands screws up the suspension. We are going to park it on a bunch of carpet tiles on top of cardboard.

I typically place my 4th gen on jack stands for the winter. If im lazy one year, Ill over inflate the tires to the max psi labeled on the sidewall and deflate to recommended cold psi once its time to drive in the spring. Vehicle gets a battery tender hooked up, gas tank filled up (with Stabil fuel treatment as well), ill also add a box of baking soda to the interior to keep a musty smell from developing. Depending on where youre storing the car, keeping some mothballs or drier sheets around the car might be a good idea to keep the rodents away.

As far as placing the vehicle on jack stands, causing damage to the suspension. If you can place the stands under the control arms, the vehicle will sit at normal ride height while on the stands and not potentially cause "damage" to the shocks/struts.

They make these black foamy looking things that you can put down on the garage. You just drive over them and problem solved from what I've read.
