Wrapping my hood saturday..

So as the title says, I'm going to wrap the hood myself matte black like the 1LE. Anyone have any tips? I've watched tons of vids and it seems like a very simple instillation. I worked at a print shop for a while and the very same principles seem to apply, but just to wanted to see if anyone has some specific tips or things I should watch out for etc. Any input is appreciated!

May I ask. How much are they charging you? I asked at one place and they wanted $350 just to do a hood wrap. I thought that was about $200 more than it should have been.

as a sign company owner, my advice is to start in the middle and work out. Try to not stretch the vinyl much and be careful how hot you get the vinyl if using a heat gun. too much heat will cause a hole instead of just returning it to original form or making it more flexible. Make sure that you know whether the type of vinyl that you are putting on is a dry or wet application vinyl to minimize air bubbles. I prefer the 3M 1080 vinyls, just because they have the built in air channels and are removable if I don't like the end results or want to change it up periodically. 2 yards x 60" is about $50-$60 wholesale for solid or metallic vinyls and about 2x-3x for the carbon fiber or specialty like pearls and color shifting, so if you're paying $300 for a 30-60 minute installation they are making a lot of money on that job. I don't do entire vehicle wraps since that's not my business model (we like doing building signage), but we do a fair share of custom vinyl lettering for mostly commercial vehicles.

Good luck and share your pictures and what type of vinyl you used when you are done. I can't wait to see it

I'm doing it myself 60$ for the vinyl on amazon and 5$ for a tool, and 6$ for an exacto.. Much less than 300 which is what the companies want to charge me as well

Wow very solid advice man thank you! I ordered the 3m 1080 matte black vinly everyone said it was the best. Good to know about the heat gun thing too because that's one area I was a little unsure about.

I love the 3m air channel vinyl. So much easier than the Dinoc type. On a Flat Hood you should Not have to use Much heat at all. The surface Must be pristine, small dirt will show on that flat surface.

Pleasepost your results. I can't imagine doing this myself. It cost me between 1500 and 2000 to have one of my service trucks done and I think thats a bargin. Maybe Im a fool.

,,, First thing I removed on my 1LE was the hood wrap. I had mine painted instead.

I got mine wrapped in satin black on my grey metallic for $150.

I also got my spoiler and mirrors wrapped in satin black.

Advice: Claybar your hood.

I got my hood and indents below the headlight wrapped in satin black for about $110. It was a good deal for me.
